Thought we’d let you know why the Spindlebrook team has had to take a break for a couple of weeks.
Hen, head grower in the market garden, unexpectedly had a heart attack and had to spend some time in the hospital.
She had an operation to help with the problem, which is thought to be genetic, & is recovering very well at home.
She won’t be able to work in the garden for some time but dear Leo is still going to be selling the gorgeous veg that we’ve worked hard to grow this season by delivering veg bags every Thursday and coming to Modbury Barrow Market every Saturday morning.
We so appreciate all of your support & kind words.

We’ll be back to full steam next year with a bionic Hen!

A few weeks ago I ventured off the garden up north to give a talk on ‘agroecological veg production for a sustainable future’, as part of a beautiful festival for doctors, created by .

It was my first time giving a talk and I wont lie, I was terrified! However, David had created a warm & welcoming space and the audience was very kind.
I quite quickly settled in to introducing them to all the wildlife that we share Spindlebrook with and how that interconnected web of life enables us to produce healthy veg without digging, harmful chemicals or heavy machinery.

Our good health depends on the good health of the wild web, as we are not separate from it.
I would even go as far as to say that the health of the wild web is dependent on our good physical and mental health.
The healthier we are as growers & farmers, the better decisions we make.

Thanks to my lovely neighbour over the hedge for convincing me to go!

The other speakers were:

Rebecca Hosking - Regenerative Farming and the moving story of how she became an ethnobotanist
Dr Jenny Goodman - Ecological Medicine and Human Health
John Letts - Organic Farming and Heritage Grain Pioneer
Russ Carington - Regenerative Farm Management at Knepp Estate
Dr David Unwin on twitter - Wildlife Conservation in General Practice
