🚧 Challenging Horse Chestnut Removal – Safety First 🌳

Today’s job saw the removal of a large, heavily compromised Horse Chestnut, standing at approximately 25 metres with a 32” DBH.

This tree had previously been heavily pollarded, which over time had led to significant decay pockets and structural weakness throughout the crown and stem. The level of internal rot made it a serious concern — particularly given its elevated position directly over a busy road.

With safety as the top priority, the team carried out a controlled dismantle, utilising a speed line system to safely manage timber over the target area.

We brought in the Avant loader to handle the heavy sections, allowing us to efficiently and safely move the larger rings once on the deck.

A full setup today — the right kit, the right planning, and a solid team effort to get the job done safely and professionally 👊

If you’ve got concerns about a tree on your property, especially one that’s been previously reduced or pollarded, don’t leave it too late — get it checked.

Another precision job completed today 🌳

We were carrying out reduction and shaping works on a large mature Beech, positioned directly over the client’s property — so no room for error on this one.

Careful planning, controlled cutting and constant communication between climber and ground team ensured everything came down exactly where it needed to. No damage, no drama — just smooth, efficient tree work done right.

The end result is a well-balanced crown, reduced weight over the property, and a much safer, more manageable tree moving forward.

Big team effort on this one 👊🌳 💪
Timber Tree Surgery Ltd — safe, professional, and precise.

Thanks to Craig & Jackie B.

🌳 Beech Removal – Safety & Habitat Balance

This mature beech (approx. 25m tall, 24.5” across or DBH) was removed following council instruction due to significant defects.

The stem showed:
• A pronounced vertical scar
• Large rot pockets and internal decay

These issues compromised the tree’s structural integrity, so a careful, controlled dismantle was carried out to ensure safety throughout.

🌿 Why leave a monolith?

We retained a low monolith to:
• Provide valuable wildlife habitat (insects, birds, fungi)
• Maintain some ecological value while removing risk

Another solid job balancing:
👉 Safety
👉 Professional standards
👉 Environmental responsibility

Top work from the team 👊

Timbers big job this week involved the dismantling of a huge Eucalyptus tree — a big, heavy tree that needed a careful and well-planned approach.

For this one we brought in a specialist climber along with an additional groundie to make sure the operation ran smoothly. The tree had already begun lifting the surrounding fence and decking, and with deck lighting installed around the area, we had to work carefully around the structures to avoid causing any additional damage.

Large timber, tight working space and obstacles on the ground meant the job demanded speed, precision and constant communication from the whole team.

With the climber dismantling the tree piece by piece and the ground crew managing the rigging and processing the timber, the work flowed safely and efficiently.

Jobs like this highlight the importance of experience, planning and the right equipment when dealing with large trees in confined spaces.

Another challenging job completed safely and professionally. 🌳💪

A big thanks to Craig, Mike and the evergreen Jackie B.

🌲 Big Timber Training – 35m Sitka Spruce 🌲

A cracking day up in Aberdeen on the Big Tree course.

Today we safely felled a 35-metre Sitka spruce measuring 1.2 metres at the base — proper forestry work and a great test of hinge control, sweep cuts and precision.

It’s one thing cutting trees.
It’s another understanding the mechanics behind them.

Really enjoying sharpening the skill set and adding another layer of professionalism to Timber Tree Surgery. Continuous development matters — for safety, for standards, and for our clients.

Back to the day job soon… but always learning.
