What a day it has been. Possibly better than the last best day a few weeks ago and the majority of the sales happened mid to late morning. Such a contrast to last Sunday when the grand total was under £100!! Is there some magic grapevine which puts out messages telling potential customers to visit on a certain day but on no account to turn up another time? I can't keep up with the unpredictability.

I've been preoccupied and distracted by an influx of cats over the last few weeks. It started when we noticed a heavily pregnant one which I fed because she seemed so hungry. She then had kittens just over 8 weeks ago, next door I think. She kept coming for food and ate anything I put out for her like a dog eats. I felt sorry for her. A couple of weeks ago she brought the kittens here, there were five of them but then the two intact males began to be attracted to her and it was clear that she needed to be scooped up and taken to the vets to be done. I managed to catch her yesterday and she had the op and was then re-homed to a farm on the other side of the village. All I need to do now is catch the kittens and get them done and re-homed, the same people at the farm will have them. In the meantime I have been able to get quite a lot of potting done and plants put out in the sales area. Thank goodness for the cooler days and some rain.

It won't be long before these beauties are flowering.

Carex elata Aurea seems to have been very much in demand this year unlike the last 2 or 3 years when hardly any were bought. Open today and all weekend.

Oh my goodness, I've just heard a cuckoo for the first time for years.

I can't believe I'm saying this after moaning about the endless rain earlier in the year but this rain now is very welcome. Hopefully the wilting plants in the garden will be perkier in the morning, the tanks will be full and I won't have to water plants in the sales area.

I'm shattered after the busiest day this year. Lots of new customers as well as some of my regular visitors. Quite a few people looking round the garden too. I need to get a lot of potting done to keep up with the demand.

The Doronicum have been flowering for a few weeks and still have plenty of buds. Bees like them too.

I found a pair of leather gloves in the car park here yesterday. I'll keep them until the owner claims them.
