Now heading into the run up to summer we have had a big influx of customers asking for our advice on treating outside timber Buildings / Summerhouses Sheds /Gates /Fences and more .
Now whilst all our outside timber products are all built using “Pressure Treated “ timber which helps protect it from insect attack and rot long term it doesn’t necessary make it waterproof .
With a dry warm building inside and wet skin outside the damp and water can still be drawn through the timber and any nail head holes causing leaks and damp patches .
The solution is a good coat of treatment to provide a waterproof skin that the rain just runs off and preferably a shade of colour to also help against the grey bleaching effects of the sun on the timber each year .
The answer in our opinion is definitely an oil based treatment to extend its life and help against water related problems .
At our workshop we stock a great branded treatment in 5Ltr tins from Clear to Green and various shades of Brown .
We also offer a local treating service for customers that struggle to apply it …..

It’s been a welcome sight to see a few sun rays poking through the clouds of March encouraging people out into their gardens and kick starting all those put off garden fencing jobs along with some nice little construction projects.
A whole raft of custom made gate projects thougout March along with various trellis panel commissions of various styles .
Along with those we were asked to design and build an Arbour to accommodate two seats as a surprise for a clients elderly Mum and Dad to take in the late afternoon sun throughout the coming summer months.

So the Ash Timberworks crew were tasked with a nice little project locally to take all the old fences and foliage out and away and completely revamp the whole rear and front garden.
All the fencing and panels were made bespoke and installed in house along with a set of made to measure gates designed and built in our purpose kitted out workshops at Station Rd New Romney .
I think you will agree it came out beautifully and everyone was absolutely thrilled with the finished results.

So over the last couple of weeks we have been tasked to build and install 5or6 made to measure gates and frames of different designs, all built with Mortise and Tenon joints …pressure treated joinery timber ,glued and pinned rails and stiles along with rust proof stainless steel screws and nails with galvanised hinges and latches .
These gates will last a min of 15/20 years regularly treated with our oil based preservatives we retail from our workshops .
Along with the gates we were tasked to design and build some sleeper beds with made to measure diamond trellis topper panels and a palisade gate to provide a dog proof barrier and privacy screen between two caravans .
Our clients were over the moon with the results and have asked for an additional palisade fence project in the back section.

So the Ashtimberworks Teams are back in action this week after a well deserved Xmas break …..Here’s a few photos of our work on the run up to Xmas …..From taking an amazing long standing 80 year old shed down bit by bit and replacing it with a new concrete base ,pathway ,door ramp ,new timber workshop and finished off with a top quality tgv gate.
Numerous pergolas and fencing projects were undertaken including one taking down the front walls and replacing them with a nice modern looking Venetian fence with hand made matching gates all built in our workshops and installed by the “A” Teams ….

This one was a tough nut to crack,

20 bays sandwiched in between a barbed wire fence that couldn't be moved and a line of big trees!

We had roots, concrete, heavy rain, hail, subzero and wind....the list goes on...

But as always we got in there and smashed it for a top notch quality job that our customers are absolutely made up with!

Well done this week lads, a tough one but a job well done and an excellent end result!

Back to our heavy duty fencing today using our heavy duty hit and miss panels, concrete posts and concrete gravel boards,

These panels that we build in house were ideally suited for this job due to the vast open space and the constant hammering from the prevailing wind, extra long posts was also a must to ensure a firm hold in the ground
