Our clients asked us to rework the rear of their house to create a larger, brighter family space. The existing layout felt enclosed and relied on small openings, limiting light and how the rooms connected to the garden.

We designed a rear extension that stretches across the plot, using brickwork to tie into the original house while introducing large glazed openings at ground level. A new pitched roof and rooflights bring daylight deep into the plan, shaping a single kitchen, dining, and living space beneath. Full-height sliding doors open the room directly onto the garden, allowing the interior to extend outside.

Inside, we organised the space around a central kitchen island, with dining and seating areas set alongside the glazing. The roof form and skylights define the room without breaking it up, keeping the plan open but legible.

A family in central Oxford asked for more — not just a bigger house, but a better one.

Their Edwardian home had charm and character, but like many period houses, it wasn’t built for modern family life. The kitchen was small, dark, and cut off from the garden. They wanted space to cook, eat, and spend time together without feeling separated from each other — or from the outdoors.

We designed a glazed gable extension that opens the house to the garden and fills it with natural light. The vaulted ceiling creates a sense of volume without overwhelming the existing structure, while the exposed brick and black-framed glazing tie the new space back to the home’s original materials.

Inside, the layout now flows naturally from kitchen to dining to living, with views stretching through the garden to the apple tree at the back. On sunny days, the doors slide open and the family eats outside. In winter, the same spot feels bright and calm, with light filtering in through the roof windows.

It’s a modest addition in scale, but one that has changed how the house feels and functions every day — turning a once-cramped kitchen into the heart of the home.

A family in Oxford asked us to rethink their 1930s home. They wanted more space, more light, and a garden that felt like an extension of daily life rather than something separate. We set out to create a home that carried their character and energy, with rooms that open easily into one another and a landscape that invites people outside.

We extended the rear of the house and introduced a loft remodel, then linked everything together with warm timber, soft greens, and simple, robust materials. The living spaces now unfold toward a garden designed for gathering—sunken seating around a fire bowl, planting that wraps the space, and a studio at the end of the plot that feels both secluded and connected.

A family in Newbury asked us to reimagine their 1930s home. They loved its character but needed more space, more light, and a better connection to the garden. We set out to design a home that felt calm, open, and modern without losing its original charm.

We added a full-width rear extension and a loft conversion. The new steel-framed glazing opens the ground floor to the garden, turning the living spaces into one continuous room of light. In the loft, a gable window with a Juliet balcony creates a quiet bedroom that catches the morning sun.

Inside, pale timber, soft tones, and simple detailing shape a warm and grounded atmosphere. Every change supports everyday living, making the house feel both renewed and unmistakably theirs.
