Another shadow portrait painting. Small this time, only 30x24cm and in oil paint.

After months of working hard for my MA at Wi******er School of Art, I’m taking a break and just painting for the fun of it.

This painting was shown at Wi******er School of Art back in December. For me, the sepia background reflects memory and the knotted cord linking the figures suggests a troubled connection. The connecting cord was inspired by Frida Kahlo’s ‘The Two Fridas’.

Nothing has Changed, Everything has Changed
Oil painting on canvas (160 x 160 cm)

This is my largest painting so far. It came about from ideas about forgotten working class histories, of lives ruined by war, men working in the heat, fumes and danger of industry, the abuse of power, the silences, the lack of communication and isolation, the blindedness. It’s based on history - the technology changes but in many ways, nothing has changed.

Thanks to for the first photograph.
