On 22nd July 2021 we signed a contract and agreed a payment plan with Bartlomiej (Bart) Dawid Zegadlo and Kamil Drozdz to build a two storey extension to the side of our house in Swindon. The price for this work was agreed at £102,000. We paid the deposit and everything seemed to be going ok until the penultimate payment on 31.12.21. At this stage we had paid £98,000 (£94,000 of the original price plus an extra £4,000 as we had to replace the whole roof due to rotten struts). The £8,000 remaining of the original amount was £3,000 when the work was finished and £1,000 monthly until 30th June. In January Bart started complaining that he was short of money and I foolishly paid an additional £6,000 plus £1,080 for a change to the heating system - altogether £105,080. The last payment was made 11/02/22, this left £2,000 of the original £102,000. In the middle of March Bart suddenly demanded an additional £13,200 to finish the work. We didn’t have this money so Bart and Kamil left leaving the house in the state shown in the photos.
If you are thinking of employing Bart don’t give him any money until the work is completed.
