CONTEMPORARY REPLACEMENT DWELLING
Last week we went to site to check the progress on one of our favorite projects - we are so happy to see building works well underway and this fantastic design taking real shape!
This is another of those projects where a strong relationship between us and our clients has been built. It was hard not to! A young couple that bought a small bungalow in a prime location in Newquay, with the views of converting it into their end family home, approached us to work with them in what would be their lifetime project. The great feeling that both them and us had from the initial meetings was the key to build this relationship, and also the key to work together to transform this property in something to be proud of.
The original property was a single storey bungalow located within a row of houses that have been modernised over the last decade – it was feeling outdated, and calling for a full renovation! The potential was just there: and unbeatable location overlooking Pentire Headland and the North Coast to one side, and Crantock Beach and Village to the other side.
The proposed designed maximised these views, making sure that they were now a part of the house. Framing corner-windows, balcony areas with large openings bringing these views in were a must for the first floor area, while the ground floor works as a more private family living area that proudly opens to the back garden. And a double height atrium by the entrance hall that visually and physically connects both floors.
We started work on the Design Stage for this project in 2020, and obtained Planning Permission in 2021. Following planning consent, we were also appointed to work on the Building Regulations and Technical drawings, and obtained Building Control plans approval later in 2021. Works commenced on site in late 2022.
