🎨Newry Art Society Exhibition

We are delighted to invite you to our exhibition of artwork by members of Newry Art Society. The exhibition is now open at Newry Library and runs until 11th April.

Come along and enjoy a wide variety of paintings and styles created by our talented local artists. Whether you have a love of art or are simply curious, everyone is very welcome.

This is a great opportunity to support local artists, meet members of the society, and perhaps even be inspired to pick up a brush yourself.

Take a look at some photos of the exhibition below—but be sure to visit Newry Library to experience the artwork in person.

Last week we were delighted to welcome Cora Harrington to deliver a fantastic workshop in abstract painting.

Using a variety of techniques, we created an amazing array of vibrant and expressive work. Although we worked in acrylics on the night, the same techniques can easily be applied to oils as well.

It was a great evening full of creativity and experimentation, we were all amazed at how beautifully everything came together and how much fun it was to create.

Take a look below at a selection of photos from the workshop.

It’s been a while since we last posted from Newry Art Society! We just wanted to mention the brilliant demonstration we had from Gerry Clarke before Christmas. Gerry is a regular demonstrator and always puts on a fantastic demo. This time, he worked on a watercolour scene that really inspired everyone.

Check out the photos below from the night!

A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a wonderful evening with Irish mixed-media artist Emma Spence. She joined us in Ballybot House to share her work, demonstrate her techniques, and talk us through her creative process. It was truly inspiring to find out how she incorporates various materials into her pieces, and a real treat to admire her finished paintings up close.

You can learn more about Emma and her artwork on her website: www.emmaspence.com

Due to weather conditions there will be no meeting tonight (19th November) at Ballybot House. Stay safe everyone.

It was another busy and creative night! 🎨
Some artists started brand-new pieces, while others added the finishing touches to works in progress. There’s always such a great mix of mediums — oils, acrylics, pastels, and watercolours are the favourites. The styles are just as varied, from quick sketches and traditional paintings to surreal and abstract creations.

Take a look at some of the amazing paintings and works in progress from the past couple of weeks 👇✨

A special thanks to Cora for bringing in a selection of her paintings to showcase what she’s created during our sessions.

The inspiration for many of our paintings comes from photographs taken during walks, holidays, and family outings. An interesting question was asked last night: would a very good photograph make a good painting? Or is the composition in the photograph more important than well-balanced colour and exposure?

It's fascinating to see how artists interpret photographs—adding elements that aren’t there to enhance or change the scene, altering colours to suit the mood, or simply trying to capture on canvas what they saw through the lens.

Check out the photos of work in progress for yesterday’s inspiration.

It was a wonderful start yesterday to our weekly meetings. We had an inspiring evening with Paul O'Kane that has demonstrated his technique and style in acrylics. It was fascinating to see his painting going from drawing to finished art. Below are some photos from the evening.

It is great to be back 🎨🖼

It's good to be back after very long break. Everone was very busy tonight.
