🌱 Keeping young trees happy in this heat 🌤️

Newly planted and young trees need extra TLC in warm, dry weather – their roots are still shallow, so they dry out much faster than established trees.

Here are a few simple tips:

Water deeply, not just a quick sprinkle – aim for a good soak so the moisture reaches 20–30cm down into the soil around the roots.

As a guide, try to give a young tree a couple of buckets’ worth of water over the week during hot, dry spells (little and often is fine as long as it adds up to a good drink).

Water early in the morning or later in the evening to reduce evaporation and make the most of every drop.

Check the soil – if the top few inches are dry and crumbly, it’s time for another drink.

If you’re unsure whether your young trees are getting enough water, we’re always happy to advise on site and tailor watering guidance to your garden.

Proud to see our recent Dartington crane project featured by the Arboricultural Association as “Arb Approved Contractors in Action”

This job brought together advanced tree diagnostics, careful planning and a mobile crane to safely dismantle a large tree in a single day, keeping disruption to an absolute minimum for our client.

You can see the full story, photos and videos from the project on our website here: https://devontreeservices.co.uk/tpo-tree-risk-assessment-monterey-pine-removal-at-school-site/

If you’re responsible for trees on a site where access is tight or downtime needs to be minimal, we’d be happy to talk through options.

Last week our consultants Simon and Daniel delivered a highways tree inspection training day for the team from Devon County Council at near Newton Abbot.

It was great to meet the highways inspectors in person and share best practice around tree safety on and alongside the highway.

A big thank you to everyone who attended!💚🌳🌲

We spent a couple hours in the yard practicing milling this piece of oak into 1" and 2" boards.

It’s messy, noisy work, but its quite satisfying to be using local home grown timber.

We’re experimenting with different thicknesses to see what will work best for future projects.

If you’re curious about the process, get in touch.

This lawn was constantly wet and muddy, and hardly got used.

The water had nowhere to go because the soil underneath was compacted and holding on to moisture.

We used geo‑injection with air and biochar to open up the soil and create tiny channels for water to move through.

That helps the surface dry out more quickly and stay firmer under foot.

See the before and after of the same area, but much more usable after treatment.

Not a bad view from the MEWP today 👀

We’ve been working above the rooftops today, looking after trees and hedges for this property.

As well as giving us a cracking outlook over the bay, our MEWP lets us reach tricky spots safely and efficiently, perfect for trees and hedges in hard‑to‑access gardens..

If you’ve got trees or hedges with a view you’d like to keep on top of, we can help
