Just letting you know we haven't vanished for ever! We're having great fun clearing up and harvesting...pumpkins and chillies have been amazing this year. Although we miss our wee nursery it's so good to be able to completely empty the greenhouse and give it a good clean. We know how to have a good time!

The end of an era for Elmlea. The nursery sign will be coming down to be replaced with something more appropriate. Elmlea Retirement Home perhaps?
Thankyou to all our nursery friends for their very generous gifts yesterday at Kirkcudbright. We have thoroughly enjoyed your friendship over the past 25 years and wish you all the very best in the challenging and unpredictable world of horticulture. We will of course see you at plant fairs and events in the years to come so you definitely haven't seen the last of us!

Salvia confertiflora looking pretty good outside our packing shed. This seems to be a week of endings. Last ever mail order plants were packed and sent off this week. Giles is giving his ( probably) last ever low-tec, plant based talk this evening. (To Barony Gardening Club at Kirkmichael Hall Parkgate at 7.15). We opened at 10 this morning and will be open until 5 on Sunday when we close for the very last time. Giles will be at Kirkcudbright Autumn Plant Fair on Sunday with as many plants as he can muster. This will be your last chance to buy our plants and it's a great time of year to plant new borders or rejuvenate existing ones.
It all sounds a bit sad but we are super excited about new beginnings too. We have a hugely over ambitious list of projects to get started here and we've already booked a quick trip up to Fife to see the beautiful Cambo gardens in their Autumn glory. I'm planning to keep our Instagram posts going from time to time so you can keep up with any future developments!
A huge thankyou to all our followers and customers..it's all been great fun.🥰🥰

The nursery is open from 10 till 5 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No more markets so we will both be here all weekend. We plan to be open again next week from Thursday to Sunday with Giles at Kirkcudbright Autumn Plant Fair on Sunday 7th September.provided we have a few plants left. The nursery will then be closed. The website is being closed and there will be no more mail order.
It's all very strange and a little bit sad after such a long time but we're very excited about our ridiculously ambitious plans for the garden! We're also excited about being able to get out and about to visit other gardens and nurseries.
Thankyou to all for the support and fun over the years. We plan to keep posting to let you see what we get up to .It's a whole new adventure!

What a wonderful weekend! Giles and I are completely blown away by people's kindness and generosity. To all the stall holders at both Wigtown and Kirkcudbright a huge thankyou. Your kind wishes and very generous gifts have touched us both. Some mathematical genius calculated that Giles must have done 500 Wigtown markets. Blimey! On that basis it probably is time to stop!
Thankyou too , to all the customers who have come to the nursery for one last visit. Your loyalty has been much appreciated over the years and we hope you'll still drop in to see what we're up to!
We're going to try to make the nursery look presentable to open as usual on Thursday for the weekend. The plan is still to keep it open and do Kirkcudbright Autumn Plant Fair on Sunday 7th September but that really depends on how many plants we have left.Giles has said he's still going to go if only to say goodbye to his nursery friends.
Once again thankyou so much for all your kindness this weekend. X

Maybe there will be a bit more relaxing by the river in the years to come. Giles will be heading to Wigtown Market for the last time tomorrow and Kirkcudbright Market on Sunday. He has been at both markets and Castle Douglas since the very beginning. We'd like to say a huge "Thankyou!" to all our customers at these markets over the past 25 years. He will also miss all the other stallholders who have been his companions through thick and thin..and some pretty extreme weather...over the years. Thankyou for your friendship.
