🌿It’s that time of year again that we get to enjoy the sheer size and spectacle of our Gunnera that returns every year beside the Elephant family at Hillside’s entrance.

🦕Jurassic like, the leaves are ENORMOUS! With spikes up the stems, and jagged along the edges of the leaves, this prickly giant is a much loved showstopper here at Hillside. Check out the last photo to see just how much it’s grown since mid April!

🪏You’ll see a few changes as we’re doing some landscaping around the area of our new Furniture Showroom - visit us 7 days a week to see for yourself!

“In early June the world of leaf and blade and flowers explodes.”

☀️June brings such wonderful things to our lives, like the longest day and early harvests. If you’re Gorwing Your Own at Home you should be seeing tomatoes, courgettes and more grow nicely, and there’s a world of colour in gardens to bring the sunshine out even on a rainy day.

Here are some jobs to be getting to this month in your gardens and outside spaces to help make the most of outdoor living!

🌼Plant summer bedding! With the Spring frosts behind us, summer bedding is safe to be out fully. From borders and containers to hanging baskets, you can create swaths of summer flowering everywhere! Find a massive selection several great offers ion our plant areas here at Hillside!

🌱Many tall plants will need help to stay upright - consider giving them some support with either wooden or metal stakes and surrounds. We have a great selection of plant supports in store to choose from!

🥬🥔Enjoy an early harvest of what you’re growing! From lettuce to early potatoes there’s a bounty to taste in June!

💦Water Water Water! Remember that rain alone isn’t enough to keep our plants happy, and containers especially will dry out in the warmer air. Keep on top of watering and you’ll see fantastic flowering until autumn!

🪷If you’re lucky enough to have a pond in your garden to enjoy, consider planting up some new arrivals like waterlilies so insects like dragonflies can rest and also lay eggs on! Find a super choice of new pond plants at Hillside!

☀️Keep your greenhouses well ventilated during hot spells, and remember that some plants can get scorched easily if left in direct sun for prolonged periods - consider adding a touch of side to some spaces.
