Low water pressure or flow rate? We're approved by Stuart Turner for installations of their pump and pressure boosting solutions range: https://www.stuart-turner.co.uk/support/find-an-installer

Here's a whole house booster recently installed at a residential property in capable of increasing dynamic water pressure by 2.5 bar and boosting flow rates to 12 litres per minute. After completing pressure and flow tests, it was determined that the Stuart Turner Stormboost would help an underpowered combi boiler receive a greater flow of water, improving the performance of all connected fixtures on the first and second floors of the property.

While not entirely silent, Stuart Turner pumps are amongst the quietest on the market. In this installation, the whole house pump was positioned as closely to the incoming mains supply as possible, underneath the kitchen sink. The pump only kicks into gear - thus making a noise - whenever a tap. shower or other fixture is opened.

If you're interested in boosting the water pressure or flow rate in your property, contact us over here at Plumbing Plus and we'll be happy to help!

If you have a seized or leaking gate valve on your hot water or central heating pipework, you're better off having it replaced with a quarter-turn lever valve. I was called out to a home in to repair a leaking valve on the central heating pipework. Not only was it leaking, the handle rose had also fallen off the valve, rendering it almost entirely useless.

Gate valves are renowned for seizing up, breaking down, and ultimately proving unfit for purpose over the long run. While replacing them isn't necessarily an urgent job, this valve's failure had let to water damage on the ceiling below and needed swapping out for a new fixture. Instead of swapping it out like-for-like, I fitted a full-bore lever valve that should stand the test of time.

If you have gate valves on the pipework around your heated cylinder that are misbehaving, get in touch and I'll see what we can do to sort that out.

If your incoming mains stopcock is located in an awkward position - maybe behind a washing machine or stuck in a corner somewhere - it's worth considering a switch-activated Surestop valve. I fitted two Surestop valves this week, one in and another in . Once in place, there's no need to move heavy items to access the stopcock or squeeze your hand into tricky spots. You instead flick the button to 'off' on the valve control switch, and your water supply is immediately isolated. When you want to re-open the water supply, simply flick the switch back to the 'on' setting.

I tend to mount the Surestop control switch inside the cabinet directly underneath a customer's sink, making the unit simple to access.

If you're interested in getting a Surestop fitted, just give me a shout and I'll happily arrange a visit.

A job from a few weeks back here in Kingsmead Northwich. The homeowner had suffered from a leaking shower tray caused by poor installation. The shower tray had developed a crack as it hadn't been installed correctly, had too much flex, and wasn't adequately supported at the point at which the crack had developed. As a result, the tray had allowed a significant amount of water through and damaged the ceiling below, rendering the whole thing unusable.

The customer decided to replace both the tray and the enclosure - opting for a rectangular unit instead of the existing offset quadrant. I helped them to source a suitable model and carried out all work to first remove the old fixtures, rectify the underlying issues that had allowed a crack to develop, and then install the new fixtures.

After completing work in the bathroom, I then fitted fresh plasterboard to the damaged ceiling, and skimmed the area with 2 coats of plaster. Job done 🫡

It's been a while since my last post, plenty of jobs to mention since then. This one was over in Anderton just past the Winnington bridge, returning to a local business to sort out a leak from the pan connector.

With jobs like these, it's a case of detaching the entire toilet from each connecting point, bringing it forward and providing a fix. With old toilets like this, you're invariably battling with rusted screws and other nasty obstacles. In this case, I had to saw the floor bolts away to allow access.

After eventually moving the toilet and inspecting the pan connection, the cause of the leak was revealed to be a completely severed inner seal. I removed the damaged offset connector, installed a new one, drilled new holes for the floor bolts, fitted plugs, positioned the toilet in place, attached the floor bolts, sealed the edges of the pan and all was good to go 🫡

I was called to an emergency leak in Goostrey yesterday. The homeowner woke up to find water coming down through his hallway ceiling and by the wall lights. He'd noticed some signs of water damage previously, but things had suddenly taken a turn for the worse.

I lifted up a section of flooring that seemed to have been cut at an earlier time, and immediately saw the issue. The previous plumber who'd lifted the floorboard when doing work to a pipe run close by had accidentally hammered a nail through an unrelated section of pipe when putting the floorboard back in place.

Accidents happen, but instead of rectifying their mistake with a proper fix, they instead decided to remove the nail, cover the hole with mastic, and pretend nothing had happened! It's amazing the 'fix' lasted as long as it did to be perfectly honest, but it was always doomed to eventually fail.

The original pipework was imperial sizing, so the fix required a couple of imperial to metric adapting couplers. I also added a couple of safe plates to the joists to prevent a fresh nail going through my fix at a later point 🫡

Latest cloakroom suite renovation here in Kingsmead. The goal of the refurb - apart from updating the look and feel - was to maximise the available space in a tight understairs area, and to install a suite that best utilised that space.

I started by relocating the basin waste pipe behind the skirting, meaning the unsightly and space-wasting boxwork could be removed. With the main reconfiguration in place, I papered the walls, painted the door and skirting, added a tiled splashback, laid new flooring, and installed a short projection toilet and vanity unit to complete the makeover.

The vanity unit provides additional storage, while the basin itself is wider and more usable than the wall-hung version it replaced. Transformation complete! 🫡

Geberit systems are really impressive - well-designed, and straightforward to update. I removed an old flush valve that had allowed excess water to pass into the bowl and replaced it with the updated 212 model designed to retrofit all concealed cisterns.

Geberit provides IKEA-style visual instructions to guide you through each step of the process, including detailed diagrams of the parts involved. Its all very intuitive and well thought out!

It was also my first time inside the Verdin House flat complex, formerly the old art college. Must've driven past well over a thousand times now, so it was nice to finally see inside. 🫡
