The mechanism had failed and this window was seized shut. The easy answer at that point is force, which quietly turns a repair into a new window. It was opened non-destructively instead, frame, sash and glass untouched, then the failed mechanism replaced and new Saracen keeps fitted so the locking points bite properly again. Three of four hinges snapped on an older Anglian patio door, and the whole thing was coming off the frame every time it was opened. New modern hinges all round, plus a secondary top hinge for the weight, and it works like it left the factory yesterday. Swipe for the whole job: snapped hinge, door off, hinge kit, finished. Break-in attempt today on a door we fitted a mid-range cylinder to a few months ago. They destroyed the handle. They destroyed the mechanism. They pried at the cylinder and damaged it, but it did not fail. The reinforcement held and the door stayed locked. Nobody got in. The door has since been repaired and restored to its original condition.
