Built within an original 1818 Victorian walled garden, the nursery was founded by Fred and Ivy Gates when they created a market garden back in 1948. Still

very much a family business today, we are proud to say that many of the traditional values the business was built upon are just as important to us today. Covering over 12,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor displays and offering a wide choice of goods, ranging from indoor and outdoor plants, garden care and hardware, gifts, home ware, garden furniture and BBQs, clothing and much more besides, why not pay us a visit and experience the charm of Gates Garden Centre for yourself? There's also a large Farm Shop, Garden Restaurant, Courtyard Coffee Shop, outdoor childrens play area and a dog walking field to complete your visit.

See over 100 vintage cars as they visit Gates Oakham through the day. Enjoy the kids rides, bounce on the huge inflatables, and have fun with the Leicester Tigers and LOROS giant mascots.

Meet the Cirquoise team, feed the UK’s smallest pony and his friends, see the pony show, and try your hand at a circus act.

Enjoy the Roaming Giraffe food vans and test out the sirens with the Leicestershire Rural Policing Team. See The Leicestershire Fire & Rescue fire engine from 11am to 1pm.

Lovely salvia having a moment in our horticultural courtyard. 🌿

This perennial summer favourite is excellent in full sun, easy to grow, and a favourite of bees and other pollinators. 🐝

Long-lived border salvias are available as either small shrubs, like Salvia microphylla, or herbaceous perennials, like Salvia nemorosa. They come in a range of colours, from bright pinks and red to deep purple and blue.

Water regularly in the first year to establish, but mature plants become highly drought-resistant.

Many of our summer bedding plants and herbaceous perennials are grown at our on site nursery at Gates Woodlands Hinckley. This means high quality plants with minimal distance traveled and fabulous prices for our customers.

Visit us in store to enjoy 12 for £24 on 9/10.5 cm summer bedding plants, 3 for £10 on summer bedding plants in 1 litre pots, and 3 for £20 on Grown with Love herbaceous perennials in 2 litre pots.
