Everyone check your properties and be extra vigilant. There were a spate of burglaries in the area last night.

Check for damage around your handles and locks as the burglars used the lock snapping method to gain entry.

If your locks stick out from the handles by more than a few mm then let us know.... These are the most vulnerable and will be targeted first.

Ultion lock on a composite door picked on a warrant this morning in record time.

This method of entry was used by a burglar in Mansfield to gain entry to a property.

The occupant had left the keys in the lock on the inside so the burglar just reached though and opened the door.

Called out to a customer who was moving out of her flat and had lost the keys to her fire exit door.

The door was locked so I picked the lock open with no damage and replaced it with a new lock and 3 keys.

This saved her fault deposit and enabled her to give a full compliment of keys back to her landlord.

Lost keys to an ERA Fortress mortice lock after property had been repossessed. Decoded and replaced lever pack with 2 new keys supplied to the auction house.

What do locksmiths do for downtime I hear you ask? Actually nobody asked but I'm going to tell you anyway.

Well, myself Richard from Surelocked Homes, and Simon from "Simons Local Locksmiths" treated ourselves to a bit of metal detecting at the seaside today.

I think we found about 90p and some scraps of metal between us, but we both got a bit of exercise and some downtime.

You see, being a locksmith is a funny old game and we both have our strengths. Sometimes I help Simon, and sometimes Simon helps me.

This is pretty unusual behaviour for locksmiths who usually get the right hump when someone else sets up close to them. We don't see the need to be in battle with each other when we can happily work together. This has been particularly highlighted during this lockdown period which has tested the most stable of businesses.

I'm pleased to say both businesses have survived and come out the other side stronger than ever.

The fire brigade had forced the door at this restaurant believing there was a gas leak inside.

I was called originally to get in with no damage, but because it was an hour away in Leicester the desicion to get in quickly was taken by them, which was the right decision!

So, when I arrived I was asked to make the door lockable again. Not an easy task when there's a fair bit of door missing and the lock has been ripped out.

It's a temporary fix but it's lockable and it's tidy.

Certainly one of my more challenging jobs!
