Activity news on our Wild Seed Flower Area at The Rise, Adderbury for 2021 x

GWS 2021 hello I am growing GWS wild flowers again at The Rise, Adderbury, this summer of 2021 # # #

Sadly, 2020 gardening at The Rise just did not happen. Our Page is to show what we are doing with our Grow Wild Seeds from Kew Royal Botanic Gardens with our Wild Seed Flower Area at The Rise Adderbury, a new project for A

dderbury District Council with Chairman Diane Bratt and assisted by Margaret Halstead who gave the seeds and seedlings and is the Adderbury contact with the Kew
outreach initiative and Andrew Barnes, who also provided plants and was a member of the Management Team at the Adderbury Lakes Local Nature Reserve. Now, in June 2021, we have begun our GWS wild flower gardening again, and we look forward to a happy continuance of our wild seed flower growing site. We have a new notice of who and why we are here. Details of the wild flowers which we grow will be published shortly. We are very pleased to report that we now have Viper's bugloss making its biennial appearance just this week. Its a bright blue, bristly plant, flowering from June to September, so there is plenty of viewing time before the autumn, for you to become acquainted with this striking plant.

Well today was the day for raking up the mown GWS wild seed flower area at The Rise, Adderbury I've managed since 2016. APC Contractors gave
it a hay cut last week and it was up to me to rake it over, strim and make it ready for seed sowing very soon.

A mammoth task but oh my goodness, 4-5 young boys playing nearby came to my rescue with offers of help which I enthusiastically accepted. We collected 7 bulging bags of grass/hay and off I went for more large bags.

I collected another 7 bags by myself and brought them to my allotment composters. I filled every one !!x

The Rise at Adderbury has been mown already this last week. So the last photos published on Monday are the last photos of our GWS wild seed flowers for 2023. I will show them again today
Probably due to rain clouds anticipated for next week, APC's contractors decided to mow at Adderbury a week earlier than expected. Now I must set to to rake over and clear away the hay earlier and hopefully do it all before the next rains are due. And then seed after the rains ###

Our GWS wild seed flowers site is in good bloom still and here are a few memories to hold onto from Monday 1 August. The site will have its hay cut in about 10 day's time. Then after the plant material has given up all of its seeds and been gathered in for composting, the site will be reseeded for next summer's flowering ###

APC contractors will mow our site at The Rise in August. Then I will reseed for a great flowering of GWS for 2024 Next Summer ###

I have just signed the Petition to stop the UK Government allowing the use of neonicotinoids

In 2021, 2022 and 2023, the UK government permitted use of neonicotinoids for beet growing without a vote in Parliament. Derogations from the ban on use of these substances are no longer allowed in the EU due to proven harm to pollinators.
