🌿 This is another lovely Big Green Week morning spent building our Bug Hotel!

Our youngest participant came very well prepared and even brought a book to share with the group, helping everyone learn about where insects live and what makes their best habitats.

We then collected natural materials in the Woodland, gathering dry branches, leaves and pine cones, while also collecting additional materials around the Orchard.

Everything was brought together and used to fill wooden pallets to create a bug hotel.

Participants also had the chance to learn and practice simple tool skills, including using saws and axes in a safe, supervised way.

💚 A huge thank you to our superstar Russ Spivey Russell Spivey for preparing all the materials and pallets, and for teaching us how to build the bug hotel from start to finish.

💚 Special thanks to Michael and the Orchard team for hosting us so warmly at the Orchard!

Thank you to everyone who joined Cutteslowe Greenhouse and the North Wall last weekend for the Hope Festival where we shared the findings from local research project 'Textures of Hope,' led by Susie Snyder. The project aimed to explore practices, experiences and understandings of hope today.

Alongside arts, crafts and a plant and produce sale, we co-created three community murals, all now on display in the greenhouse alongside one pre-made mural.

Our next plant and produce sale is on June 20th, hopefully see you there! If you're interested in joining us as a volunteer, please join our WhatsApp community using the link in our bio.

If you'd like to find out more about the Textures of Hope project, you can reach out to Susie at [email protected].

🌱 A fantastic morning celebrating Big Green Week with Cutteslowe Primary School!

We talked about what plants need to grow before working together to create a beautiful hessian banner using handmade potato prints. Through creativity, teamwork and outdoor learning, they explored how small actions can help care for nature and our planet.

💚 Small actions, big impact.

It's hot in the greenhouse, and things are really growing! Tomato plants, chillies, strawberries, courgettes, edible flowers and so much more - all being grown for the local larder and for our plant and produce sales on June 6th and June 20th. 🍓

Alongside our weekly Sow & Grow session, we are also now welcoming 40-60 children to the site every week to learn about and participate in the growing cycle with our Horticultural Director. And to everyone's relief, the vents are finally repaired, bringing much needed fresh air through the greenhouses! 🌬️

Thanks to a community bed building day, and , we now have both indoor and outdoor raised beds. Thank you to everyone who helped haul wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of compost to fill the beds! We can't wait to welcome you back to see and enjoy the rewards of your hard work. 🧺

Outside the greenhouse, Plot 4 volunteers continue to meet weekly to grow food for the local larder, and our orchard working group has started netting some trees to protect the fruits, mowing the pathways and mulching. 🍒

We've also had a lovely reminder that we're not the only ones who love it here in the park - slide 10 shows a beautiful bird's nest we found in our shed on Plot 4. 🐦
