🌿 April in the garden – a few simple tips to get you started 🌼

April is a great month to get back outside and give your garden a bit of attention. A little effort now really does make a big difference later on.

Here are a few easy things you can do:

🌱 Tidy up beds & borders – clear out weeds, old leaves, and dead growth to make space for new shoots
🌸 Start planting – hardy annuals, perennials, and early veg can go in now
βœ‚οΈ Light pruning – trim back shrubs and remove anything damaged or overcrowded
🌾 Give your lawn some love – a first mow (on a higher setting) and edging can really freshen it up
πŸ‚ Feed the soil – adding compost or fertiliser now helps plants thrive in the months ahead
πŸ’§ Keep an eye on watering – spring can be dry, especially with new plants going in

Gardening doesn’t have to be complicated,
just getting out there and doing a little at a time is enough to see results 🌿

🌧️ February Gardening Tips for Rainy UK Weather 🌱

β€’ 🚫 Avoid walking on soggy soil β€” wet ground compacts easily and causes drainage problems later

β€’ πŸ’§ Fix drainage issues now β€” clear channels, add compost, and watch for pooling water

β€’ βœ‚οΈ Prune wisely β€” great time for roses & apple trees, but skip spring-flowering shrubs

β€’ πŸ‚ Protect your soil β€” apply mulch (compost, bark, leaf mould) to prevent nutrient loss

β€’ 🏑 Start seeds indoors β€” tomatoes, chillies, lettuce & onions love an early head start

πŸ‚ Top Gardening Tips for October πŸ‚

October is the month when the garden starts to wind down for winter, but there’s still plenty you can do to keep it looking great and set yourself up for next year. Here are some key tasks to tackle this month:

🌱 Plant spring bulbs – Daffodils, tulips, and crocuses go in now for a colourful display next year.

🧹 Tidy fallen leaves – Rake them off lawns and paths, but save some to make leaf mulch.

βœ‚οΈ Cut back perennials – Trim dead stems to keep borders neat and reduce pests overwintering.

πŸ₯• Harvest late crops – Pick the last of your root vegetables, beans, and squashes before the frosts.

🌿 Protect tender plants – Move pots to sheltered spots and cover delicate plants with fleece if needed.

🌸 Plant winter colour – Add pansies, violas, or heathers to brighten up borders and containers.
