We're on the second day of our pop-up up at Downtown House in Painswick. The garden is open today under the . The walled garden is owned by plant enthusiast and author Jane Kilpatrick who has planted for year-round foliage colour and interest with some rare, historic and unusual plants, some of which we lifted last year and propagated for sale this year, including the vigorous and dramatic Heuchera americana 'Harry Hay', Iberis 'Betty Swainson', Iris 'Mrs Rowe' (so delicate and pretty!) and the eye-catching Helleborus 'Pacific Frost'. The garden is open until 3.30pm.

What fabulous weather! It's really putting us in the mood for our Summer Containers event next Friday, May 8th. If you're looking to bring a little extra flair to your outdoor space this summer, then join nursery owner Julie Dolphin for a workshop exploring how to design and plant up your pots with real impact. There'll be demonstrations of different planting combinations as well as plenty of tips on how to keep them looking good.

We are taking our plants on the road this season. Find us at these wonderful gardens...

🌷 April 18 and 19 - this weekend you'll find us at in Stroud with a pop-up up in the beautiful walled garden which has a terrific display of tulips (images 1, 2 and 3). It's all part of a fair organised by the Gloucestershire Print Cooperative where you can buy original prints and meet the talented artists.

🌷 May 9 - find us at which this year celebrates 50 years of making exceptional handmade flowerpots at its wonderful workshops in Warwickshire. Here, you can see their pots being made, enjoy excellent food from their cafe and be inspired by their pot displays (images 4, 5 and 6).

🌷 May 13 and 14 - we'll be at Downton House in Painswick for it's two-day opening under the National Garden Scheme. The walled garden, in the heart of this historic village, is owned by author and plant enthusiast Jane Kilpatrick. Jane has planted for year-round foliage colour and interest with particular focus on plants that thrive on thin limey soil in a changing climate. The garden features unusual trees, shrubs and peonies associated with owner’s interest in plant introductions from China (images 7, 8 and 9).

This is me, the owner of Exedra Nursery perching on my garden wall surrounded by the plants I love. Later this month, I'll be talking about some of these plants at Hawkwood, Stroud when I run my first beginners gardening course. Entitled ‘Getting Started in Your Garden’, it’s on March 22 and is aimed at growing your knowledge and confidence in a relaxed and lovely setting.

I’ll be looking at the basics that will help transform your outdoor space, from the importance of soil to choosing the right plants for your conditions and how to keep them thriving. No experience is necessary and beginners’ questions will be actively encouraged! The course is nearly full so if you're interested, be quick to secure a place. It would be great if you joined me. Meet Ed, he's the breeder of the Credale Strain of hellebores which we stock every year - and sell out fast! Not surprising given their beauty, bringing colour in the darkest winter months. Ed has been growing hellebores for more than 30 years at his nursery in Herefordshire. He pollinates by hand to achieve the colours he wants but allowing for variation, be it speckles, veining, dark-edged petals (picotee) and more. With every one being different, they can become an obsession. One is never enough! Ed has now sold out of the crop he produced for this season - 15,000 totally - and this is our last delivery of these very special plants.

One of the perks of the nursery being next to the is being able to enjoy it during times it's closed to the public. Busy day today with the snowdrops now in full bloom but a chance to reflect as the sun goes down on this naturalised carpet of 5 million of these incredible flowers. Breathtaking sights hard to capture on a phone!
