UPVC Door not locking?
These are the most common reasons:
Door has Dropped β It is not uncommon for UPVC doors experiencing dropping in their frame, which leads to a misalignment with the lock mechanism. This can lead to the door being difficult to open or close. This a fairly quick fix as UPVC doors are adjustable by design.
Note that if the lock works fine when the door is open, then an adjustment is needed but if there is still difficulty locking it then it is more likely a mechanical issues and the lock may need repaired.
Faulty Euro Cylinder β Problems with the key cylinder can usually be fixed through replacing the cylinder and giving you a new key without the need to change the full mechanism.
Faulty Mechanism β If there is a problem with the locking mechanism in your UPVC door this may be solved by changing the gearbox of the lock or replacing the full mechanism.
If you have a UPVC door problems can arise due to changes in the weather. As the temperatures rise and cool there are a number of issues that may appear such as being unable to open or lock your door, it sticking or stiffing in its frame making it difficult to open or close, or difficulty turning or removing your key. These are often caused by shrinkage or expansion of your UPVC door. Often these issues will pass without lasting damage once the weather has cooled or warmed, you can help this along by using cold water in the warmer weather on your door to help it come back into shape and warm water for the same job in winter.
