My 4 Day Magic Wand!
On visiting this property I assessed that there was a bad condensation mould problem and the cause was from a lack of insulation from the solid stone wall behind the plasterboard. The client asked, 'have you a magic wand?', to which I laughed and said, 'no, but I wish I had!'
The cold was transmitting through the 'dab' of the plasterboard and causing the surface to be very cold as there is no cavity wall on this property, with the cold leaching through to the inside. There is no water pe*******on from the outside, with the cold temperature alone making this problem with standard household use like cooking and showering etc inside. The only thing you can do is insulate the plasterboard, inside or outside, with the latter often being too expensive for the average householder. I got to work insulating this wall on the inside of the property.
Monday - Removed bed and wardrobe from affected walls. Pull back carpet and underlay, remove old carpet gripper rods around the edge, remove existing skirting boards, remove old ineffective plasterboard from wall, bag and remove off site. Fit new 27mm insulated backed plasterboard with plasterboard quick fix spray adhesive.
Tuesday - - Skim walls with thistle multifinish - two coats.
Wednesday - Drying day for plaster, with dehumidifier, and fitting skirting boards in afternoon.
Thursday - Painting with breathable emulsion - 4 coats - including decorators flexible filler, fitting new gripper rods and refitting of carpet and bed back against the wall in 4 days!
The client was so satified they exclaimed, 'you do have a magic wand!' One very happy customer.

New patio laid today due to previous poor construction on mud bed by other contractor. Which meant the slabs wobbled and slid. We were asked to use as much recyclable block and slab as possible that was previously laid this in turn kept cost down and environmentally sound. It’s a very strong patio now laid with mixture of dry mix and wet mix cement. Slab perimeter is planned to be painted to match property when repainting whole house.

So removed area of mortar surrounding the cover mixed up new and bedded in to frame in new position. Now structurally sound with no flex or movement.

A lot of the property built around Par and St Blazey in the 1920s suffer with cold wall syndrome as they are constructed of a thick block that has no insulation properties. The cold from the outside has no barrier and the wall to touch from the inside in the winter is similar temperature to the outside. This leads to condensation black mould, black behind furniture and wallpaper peeling. The only remedy is insulation. This can be done from outside which is a very expensive process or alternatively from the inside. This room has been lined by myself with 27mm plasterboard with a cellotex type Insulation on the back. It is stuck with a special adhesive direct to the block rather than battening the wall, to keep more of the valuable room space. After this process the room is more like the warm feel of a modern property but with the style and elegance of a period property. After all the external walls were fixed with insulation board inside I then plastered. New skirting boards were fixed with the help of my professional carpenter Dave Harris from Oceanworks Carpentry, Fowey. I then proceeded to make good the window units had re fitted new electrical sockets redecorated the room to the customers taste and presented it in the manner above. Attention to detail I find is the most important factor in creating a new space.

Recycled kitchen. On this job I removed the water damaged kitchen which was beyond repair. Plastered the ceiling and installed a very good condition second hand kitchen which I sourced from Facebook! Fantastic saving instead of buying new and I was able to dismantle it myself from the sellers home 🙂 result! I was able to keep the existing tiling with a few spare tiles added. I Installed new lighting. Plumbed in the new sink, laid the vinyl and redecorated. 💵💵💵 £ saved.

Newly installed shower cubicle bathroom coming along nicely. Unfortunately the current person living in the property had an unattended leaking bath seal that pooled water underneath the bath soaking up into the plasterboard making it brittle and wet and literally blew all the tiles off the wall. So bath and basin, old plasterboard and tiles removed. Newly installed insulated plasterboard on existing walls to eliminate any condensation (black mould) in the future. Re plastered and installed a roomy 900 shower cubicle with clean white tile and modern dark grout. Changed the location of the basin. All ready to install skirting boards window cill and repaint. 👍
