A little update as we head toward the end of the year…

I am keeping it calm and quiet this winter, I’m not doing any markets but focussing on family and taking time to work out next steps.

Our dad died suddenly but peacefully in October and I’d also started a new job in that time so I’m conserving my energy and focussing on commissions, which I’m incredibly grateful to have to keep my hands busy.

You can of course still buy my work from my site, I’m still posting pieces out and replying to emails and accepting commissions. You can reach me on here or by email, I’m always happy to hear about potential collaborations, bespoke requests or even just to say hi 🧔

Thank you to everyone that is supporting us, you know who you are and that I love you xx

I finally finished this piece last night.

I started this in 2021 I think, put it to the side while I was pregnant and rediscovered it this summer. It is silk/ linen dyed with avocado (pink) and gorse from Arthur’s seat (yellow).

The light has been beautiful lately and we’ve been making the most of it, outside with family as much as possible. Everything is very strange just now but I really do appreciate the outpouring of love, we’re very lucky.

My dad has always been the biggest supporter of my work, something I’ll maybe speak about more another time. In the meantime, this one’s for you Kenny 🧔

I’ve been holding off on posting any work in progress images of making my new room divider for HARVEST because honestly, it’s been a bit nerve wracking to see if it’ll come right! Natural dye colour can be a tricky thing to pin down- some colours you think you’ve got nailed and then you’re absolutely gutted when you find it hasn’t worked like you expected.

For this new screen, I gave myself the challenge of a series of individual object studies in print over three metres of fabric. I had an idea of the objects I wanted to use and scale but apart from that I wasn’t married to any idea of composition. I just wanted to find the balance of colour, shape and placement as I went. Everything felt very precarious as natural dye inks can be flighty in their treatment from brewing to fixing to washing out. But I am so happy with the final result.

You can see this piece alongside so many other beautiful examples of Scottish craft at HARVEST, opening this weekend until the 19th October at the City Arts Centre.

Presented by and curated by , the Fair will immerse audiences in the work of Scotland-based makers, complemented by a rich programme of workshops and events 🧔

I am so excited to be showing work at HARVEST this October. Scotland has such a rich tradition of craft and I’m proud to see it being taken from strength to strength with contemporary practice from all over the country. I’ll be showing new work as well as this wall quilt I made for , ā€˜sail on silver girl’

Some of you may know that my sisters and I are lucky enough to have a big brother with Down’s Syndrome. Our beautiful big brother David is turning 40 and next week my sisters and I are taking him to Berlin to celebrate. This is the first time since before Covid that my brother has had a big trip as travel has become difficult since our dad developed amyloidosis (Dave’s been dropping hints by leaving his passport out on the kitchen counter šŸ˜‚)

So, we are going to visit our sister Sophie in Berlin and give the city a dose of Charleson nonsense.

I’ve reduced the price of some archival pieces and sales of works this weekend will go toward making sure Dave has the best time 🧔 if you’ve ever wanted one of my quilts now is a great time to grab one. Thank you for all the support and love as always!

Swipe for a pic of the birthday boy himself, just before we went to see Robbie Williams earlier this year ✨

* sale will run until end of day Monday 8th September
* free UK delivery
* any orders made after 3pm on Monday will be posted out the following Monday after we get back from our trip šŸŒž

I continue to gently roll out these object studies in natural dyes and inks 🐌 Bringing them all together slowly but surely.

✨ HAG BRICKS ✨

An ongoing obsession, worn down by the tides and washed up in the Firth of Forth.

Printed with iron and oak gall dyes on an intensely quilted linen background.

An industrialised version of the hagstone. A 20th Century relic connected to ancient folk beliefs.
