St Oswalds Community Garden

The Garden is located in one of Pembroke Burgage plots, behind St Oswald's House on Main Street. It is accessed from the Common Road, up the ramp almost opposite the Foundry House. It is open when volunteer's are present which is publicised on a notice board which is outside. The Garden will also be open for events during the year. Watch this space. in. Originally the Burgages were planned in order to feed the families of the houses that line the Town's Main Street. Regretfully, like many of the Town's Burbages, the plot has been allowed to run diuse for many years. The Garden is owned by Pembrokeshire Housing association, who have given the garden at a peppercorn rent through 21C, to be run by volunteers in the community for the benefit of the community. The Aim of the Project

To regenerate this ancient treasure behind St Oswald’s by developing it as a Community Garden. To achieve this there are many objectives, the main ones of which follow;

Objectives

 To protect the ancient walls from further deterioration by careful management of the Ivy and other plants which grow on the walls; until such time as the walls can be properly restored.

 To manage the existing flora and fauna within the walls in an environmentally friendly way, and to create a beautiful garden to be enjoyed by all.

 To provide and maintain woodland type paths and social areas.

 To provide an outdoor venue for sharing a wide range of skills and hobbies.

 To actively encourage all ages to experience a wide range of gardening activities, including producing a limited amount of food crops for community use.

 To provide a large hut for meetings and creative activities

 To simply enjoy the space and socialise
