Creatures in your borders…. These wonderful sculptures add some fun to a border- appearing to swim through of hide behind the planting. Whether you fancy animals or simple abstract forms, these can be great additions to a border, adding structure in the winter months as well as interest within the planting in the summer.

Some lovely spring bulb displays- our team are busy keeping the weeds down- they seem to be growing almost as we look at them at the moment. It’s a good time to get out and clear before they take hold!

It has been reported that King Charles favourite flowers are Delphiniums, and these will feature in the wreaths and bouquets at Westminster Abbey for the Coronation.

Delphiniums are a beautiful perennial flowering plants, mainly in delightful blues, soft pinks, purples and whites. These tall, stately plants with their dramatic spikes of flowers have been cultivated for centuries.

One famous fan of delphiniums was King Charles I of England. He was so fond of the flowers that he had them planted in the gardens at Hampton Court Palace. Today, the delphinium is still commonly known as the "King's Flower" in honour of King Charles I. It looks as if our new King is continuing that tradition!

Delphiniums are relatively easy to grow, but they do require some care and attention. They prefer full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, and hate heavy clay as well as being overcrowded.

They also benefit from regular watering and fertiliser, and often need staking, as well as protection from slugs which can be a real problem so be ready with slug pellets or more eco (and dog) friendly alternatives.

Should you want to pay homage to the King, then now is the time as they are best planted in Spring or Autumn. If you want to discuss your planting ideas, feel free to get in touch.

Topiary and clipped shapes in garden design Naturally architectural shrub forms and those that are clipped to form a particular shape (“Topiary”) are an excellent addition to any garden design. In general we do not mean clipped peacocks (although these can be amazing!) but a range of formal and ...
