I have never known a year with so many kitchen refurbs ,I have always offered refurbs but for some reason it’s become much more popular . I see lots of ads for this so maybe thats got people thinking .
Some kitchens have new doors and worktops some like this old solid pine kitchen benefit from a repair refurb and paint .
It was worth saving built i expect by a local craftsman back when pine was popular and with lovely granite worktops
Not quite as easy as even i imagined it was a painstaking job but we got there and all were very happy with the result.
A whole day carefully removing damaged old brass slot head screws on the hinges just to get the doors off was probably the worst part , then the prep began , removing all the old oil and wax finish and years of that build up you cant avoid in a wooden kitchen needed a lot of cabinet scraping before sanding could begin then mask up and paint in place the parts cant be removed .
If you try to sand without scraping it just blocks the abrasive and heats the oils and grease into the wood then it wont take paint easily
Repair the split and broken drawer boxes and wooden runners
Then de wax and scrape the doors in the workshop before filling and sanding , i had to model a few special tools to get into the panel mould effectively so it also had a nice finish .
Painting is the easy bit 4 coats starting with a stain block primer then re hang all the doors with new screws and some nice turned wooden k***s .
