Not sure if I can explain certain elements of this painting. Just felt right

Can anybody suggest a location - not too far from Perran - where I could study a weeping willow? Even better if you can think of one next to water! Thanks 🙏 😍

‘Reflections of calmness’ 40 x 26 cm. Oil on board.

I want to make this painting in more than one size- I think it will look lovely on a wall in a large scale. I find this image calming, reminding me of the Roman baths or a vintage swimming pool. There is no sound, other than the hushed voices of two women talking about something we can’t hear.

Playing out this idea, making variations of the theme. There’s something that feels good about discovering a fantasy location that I want to explore more.

As a bit of a fantasy and studio painter, I find it so relaxing and enjoyable just to sit somewhere and paint what I see. I’m also trying hard not to think too much, just rely on instinct.

Feeling more comfortable with watercolours

I posted this painting this morning and realised that I’d forgotten to paint the reflection of the building in the water, and then I didn’t like the intensity of the grass in the foreground. So I got the brush out again!

I’ll just call this a work in progress…

I cycled into Truro today to buy some supplies from the world food shop (which is brilliant), and took my pad with me, hoping to find something to sketch on the way.

I came across the boxing club in Truro. What a weird little building this is. Like other (I think) 1930’s buildings I’ve seen in Truro, it seems like they gave it a cheap little lick to make it look art deco. Architectural effort of about 2 out 10. But still it’s interesting!

Featured in this months featured collection of Americana on Artfinder. A bit late posting this one as it came out on 4th July. However, in my defence, I’ve suffered from a bad hangover from a festival and a bout of covid in between!
