We’re delighted with our GOLD 🏅🏅🏅 medal at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival in the floral marquee. With the changes we’ve made this year to enable us to focus on students and education, we couldn’t be prouder. The L3 year 1 and 2 students have been involved through the last months selecting plants, carefully growing them, and pulling together the research needed to put on the display about three great women in horticulture, Gertrude, Ellen and Beth.

An extra special thanks to Jo, Dan and Bryony for their expertise in growing and support of the students to enable the display to be gold worthy!

We are also selling our plants, potted by our ready for adulthood and landbased groups, for which the public have been buying in their droves so far - even Joe Swift bought some Euphorbia ceratocarpa, which he’s been looking for for some time.

We’re there until Sunday - maybe see you there and if not, SATURDAY 13 June 2026 where we’ll be open for Pershore College’s Summer Fest (open day). As always, keep an eye on wcg.ac.uk/spu for any news on opening.

Josh (a proud Head of School).

It’s been a busy few weeks since students returned, helping move and prepare stock for the launch of sales from the Student Plant Unit. Our students are now involved with all activities going on with our plant growing operation.

Supported learning groups have been doing a wonderful job of preparing and cleaning areas ready to accept freshly tidied plants.

Level 1 and 3 students have been taking semi-ripe cuttings of various evergreen shrubs and have been involved with some of the prep work for building our new propagation unit too.

When we know with more certainty when we can open for some sales, we’ll be announcing dates.

At Pershore College a new National Plant Collection of plants raised by and associated with the college has been recognised. Working with students it's an important part of the the links between people and plants, recognising the contribution to plant breeding over the years. Penstemon, Cotoneaster and Ceanothus amongst others are listed in this unique collection.

We look forward to seeing future work with the students, adding to this collection.

And that's a wrap! Thank you so much for all of the customers, students and staff that have supported and worked with us over the years. This might be the end of an era, but it is the start of a new one too!

Both the garden centre and wholesale nursery at Pershore College are now closed to the public and our trade customers. I acknowledge this is disappointing to many, but it is a necessary adjustment to ensure the long-term financial health of the horticultural department and so that we can give students the best facilities that reflect the industry in 2025. In order to do this, we'll be refocussing our efforts into our new Student Plant Unit.

This new unit will allow our students to get much more involved, whether it's from planning production for the Malvern Spring Festival, or propagating and growing ready for the public sales we'll be planning for you so you can come and buy our student-grown plants.

We really look forward to inviting you back in once we have dates planned for public sales, and we'll be posting updates on this page as we re-launch, and at wcg.ac.uk/studentplantunit

So to end for now, enormous thanks from me and the team - we'll see you in September for the new term and look to share the great things we have going on with you then.

All the best, Josh
