A fee pics of the completed gilding work that we did last year in Angus with all the furniture and soft furnishings in place. Also some new bits and bobs we’ve been working on in the same house

Lovely to see Pat Renson Interiors work in all its glory

And we’re done.
A Matt varnish applied to the grained beam, a semi gloss to the marbled puller and a splash of 23.75ct gold on that band.

This week we’ve been doing a very quick makeover for The Mill Shop who are just fantastic carpet suppliers. They are revamping their office area …creating a comfy office and waiting area

They had a plain old beam and a skinny metal pillar painted off white. We’ve given them a great new marbled finish on the pillar and got the wooden beam back to a wood look.

This was just FUN!!

Back on Friday to add a dollop of gold leaf on that little detail on the top of the pillar on Friday.

I have so much to share that I’m not sure where to start so instead of going back I’ll start where I am right now.
We are preparing to go and teach at Stucco Italiano Srl in Italy, we’ll be teaching as part of a team of experts the Masterclass. Gibson and I wanted to take something new to the show. So here we are the two new techniques we’re teaching

CORONATION CHICKEN!!!

Now I am no great Royalist but this I ABSOLUTELY love. Created by GayesArt I thought this a great fun way to commemorate the Coronation, it made me hoot, especially as the very first one she did on sandpaper so it could be hung in Sandringham 🤣🤣🤣. Turns out that sandpaper isn’t the easiest material to work on with pastels so subsequently she did them on paper.
I hope this gives you a giggle too

A little bit of our actual “days off” and by that I mean ACTUAL whole days OFF work…I’m getting used to this, which is dangerous. A visit to with a delicious lunch at the museum cafe and a meet up with who we went “on the saunter” with. The building is stunning …never mind the exhibits. A cultural jaunt much enjoyed. What struck us was the contrast between the more contemporary exhibiting styles with what was obviously acceptable in days gone by. Hence the bird lollipops in the last pic. How weird are they??

As you guys know I write for the Professional Painter and Decorator Magazine, and have done for a number of years. Normally I do a "how to" article but with a new editor we thought we could explore a few other areas and so this month I'm chatting about Upcycling and Painted Furniture and how sophisticated a market it has become. I had LOTS of help from some truly amazing furniture painters who generously allowed me to use their images. Clickable links to all their various businesses can be found on the online version of the magazine which can be found here https://issuu.com/catesaint/docs/theprofessionalpainteranddecorator_spring2023_issu.

The printed magazine comes out 3 times a year and is free in Brewers, Dulux Decorator Centres and lots of independent decorators merchants and this edition should be in stores in about 2 weeks time.

Next edition we'll be back the "how to" articles and will be Mental Metallics (a working title only) and we'll do some really simple but stunning metal finishes to add to the portfolio

Nothing like a litta bitta Lincrusta. This is the first stage - a stipple in a pretty glaze to match F&B Oval Room Blue and next it will get a matt varnish and then a dry brush of soft gold. We’ll be back with more later this week

I realised I hadn’t posted the last project we completed before Christmas (or bc “before ceiling”). This was a sizeable gilding project in a castle in Angus. We’re back up there next week so maybe get pictures of finished rooms with decent lighting. These are all progress shots. There were a lot of other less interesting areas done too. Anyway I posted this on Instagram then forgot to post it here (my bad). It’s a lovely house built in the Scottish Baronial Style - which is sort of grand Arts and Crafts. Thanks to Pat Renson Interiors for bring us onto this project

The scaffold came down today - a day early - so I guess we are finished on the main ceiling. We are still working in the bar/games room so more pics to come (although I’ve sneaked a quick preview in at the end)
This has been a mega project for us.
For those just seeing it for the first time - here’s how it looked before in 2014 https://www.copperline.co/one-royal-circus/
The ceiling was water damaged so we were able to get tracings and measurements before it came down but we started with a blank ceiling and had to reinstate it
We finish 🤞 🤞 🤞 tomorrow in the bar/games room
