McKenzie Strickland Associates McKenzie Strickland Associates is an award-winning architectural practice based in Perthshire, Scotl

We listen to the needs of our clients and walk their ground with them. Then we fuse together their aspirations with local traditional vitality and 21st century ideas to create a beautiful building. Our buildings should enhance both the landscape and our client's inscape. We think globally and act locally:
We believe buildings should be timeless, sensible and inspiring to both their inhabitants and

surrounding communities. This is why we strive to understand the local cultures, construction methods and aesthetics in all the areas that we work. The experience we gain in one part of the world can shape work we do across the globe.

We are really pleased to have handed over the rebuilt Camerons VW showroom and workshop to our clients over the past couple of weeks.
We’ve also achieved a truly excellent EPC rating on the project — a strong outcome driven by careful design, coordination, and attention to detail, incorporating solar panels, heat pumps, and high standards of insulation and airtightness.
This comes at an exciting time with the opening of the new showroom — it’s great to see the project complete and our clients’ vision becoming a reality.
A big thank you to everyone involved.

We’re really pleased to have just secured planning permission for a new large rural house near Coupar Angus.
The project is a contemporary home, carefully designed for its farmland setting, and makes use of traditional materials including stone and a zinc roof, combined with a modern layout and detailing. Particular emphasis was placed on siting, scale, and how the building sits within the landscape — all critical considerations for sensitive rural sites.
Our 3D visualisations played an important role in communicating the design intent, helping both our clients and Perth & Kinross Council understand how the proposal responds to the site. The planning authority was supportive of an approach that avoided a conventional full two‑storey form in favour of a design more appropriate to its context.
If you’re considering a new‑build home in a rural or sensitive / challenging setting, and are looking for a design‑led approach that works constructively with planners while responding to local character, we’d be very happy to discuss your ideas.

The scaffolding is slowly starting to come away on this house near Dull, and the architecture will soon begin to read much more clearly.
A simple, robust palette is coming together: pitched slate roofs, crisp off‑white render and carefully detailed openings. Always a satisfying stage on site, where months of drawings and coordination begin to translate into something tangible. A few more weeks and this one will really start to reveal itself.

Delighted to be progressing work on this four‑storey townhouse refurbishment in Kensington, one of London’s most sensitive and characterful conservation areas.
The project involves a comprehensive refurbishment and re‑working of a traditional period property, balancing contemporary living requirements with careful respect for the existing fabric, streetscape, and planning context.
Working within a neighbourhood that has been home to some well‑known names, the emphasis here is firmly on quiet, well‑judged architecture — enhancing what’s already there rather than shouting about change.
More to follow as the project develops.
