Boats, boats and more boats!

Wrapping up day 2 by sailing into the Nordic Fjords - seeing the city from a whole new angle (10/10 recommend changing your POV to the sea)
Sauna + Fjord swim = the ultimate scandi spa experience ❄️🧖
Reindeer pasta? Surprisingly elite. Tullinløkka street lights? Transported us along the “river”.
Woke up to gentle rain and cheers throughout the city - Oslo knows how to do marathon aesthetics in all weather.
Signing off in Oslo, time to rethink everything we know about Urban Planning and cold-water tolerance! 🇳🇴
It would be rude to overlook the beautiful structures at Oslo Lufthaven before we left…

Day 2: History, Politics and Culture
This morning we stepped over the road to witness the Pressenhaus’ sharp geometry and well considered material palette. From a perspective of conservation; it’s a true marvel of workplace design that is both functional and comfortable. We sat in awe of these spaces, sketching and discussing the various acoustic strategies, finishes and systems in place. We strolled on to the symbolic heart of democracy that is the Stortinget, with its beautiful gardens. Notably, connected to the royal palace along Karl Johans Street.

Also on route: the monumental Oslo Rådhaus - A fortress of functionalism where Nordic myth meets modernist muscle. From its brick clad exterior to grand ceremonial halls inside, we believe it is a masterclass in civic architecture. Crossing the harbour, we reached the dynamic waterfront of Oslo - Aker Brygge. Home to both the National Museum (Don’t forget to Scream!) and iconic Astrup Fearnley Museum, designed by Renzo Piano. We found its weathered timber elevations particularly interesting, protected by its roof structure of an inspired maritime setting.

Our morning ended here, keep following along to see what the end of day 2 brought us!

Our study trip this year traded the sun-soaked beauty of Marrakesh for the cool calm of the Norwegian fjords… and honestly, Oslo understood the assignment.

An early morning flight couldn’t curb our excitement as we immediately immersed ourselves into the Scandinavian metropolis that is Oslo - a clean, efficient and architecturally significant city. We powered on to visit who were exhibiting their collection of sketchbooks from the Le Monde HQ, followed by a sneak peak of their model library; when can we move in?

Our afternoon stroll along the docks saw us stopping for nautical inspired play equipment, and a bit of fun! We marched on to the Akershus fortress in search of stories from its extensive history and I must say, the views from here were magnificent, setting Oslo amongst the fjords. For the main event, we explored every inch of the famous opera house both inside and out! With a keen eye there’s so much to see. From its relationship to the water, material palette and detailing, it was certainly a highlight. Golden hour hit at just the right time, switching the dynamic, as the sun began to set over the fjords.

Have you been to Oslo yet?

Our final day in Marrakesh took us to the magnificent Bahia Palace, a stunning example of 19th-century Islamic and Moroccan architecture. We strolled through tranquil courtyards, lush gardens, and a maze of decorated rooms adorned with intricate stucco carvings, vibrant zellij tilework, and ornate ceilings. The name ‘Bahia,’ meaning ‘brilliance,’ perfectly reflects the palace’s splendour and the ambition behind its creation.

From there, we traced our steps to the Saadian Tombs, a 16th-century necropolis echoing the solemn beauty of a past era.

We lingered in the Medina for last-minute gifts before returning to our riad, then set off for the airport.

Walking nearly 20k steps each day, we explored Marrakesh’s most treasured spaces. The city revealed a world entirely its own - layered in detail, shaped by history and Islamic tradition. Marrakesh leaves us with unforgettable memories of its beauty, complexity, and warmth.

Day 2 in Marrakesh felt like stepping into a dream of colour and contrast.

Hidden within the bustle of urban Marrakech lies the Jardin Majorelle, an enchanting oasis where the iconic blue contrasts boldly with terracotta pathways, lush greenery, and vibrant yellow accents. This florid, mysterious, and meticulously maintained garden was created by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later owned and made famous by the late couturier Yves Saint Laurent.

We strolled along the pink paths, mesmerised by the garden’s lavish plantings and serene ponds, home to tiny turtles and frogs. Chirping, croaking, and splashing does seem a perfect background soundtrack to the garden’s magical atmosphere.

Next, we visited the YSL Museum - a stunning recent addition by Studio KO. Built from local terracotta and stone, its design harmonises beautifully with the surroundings. The intricate brickwork and elegant detailing honour Saint Laurent’s legacy, a fitting addition to the garden’s splendour.

Finally, we ended the day back at Jemaa el-Fnaa, where nightfall transformed the square into a vibrant tapestry of lights, music, and life. Marrakesh continues to surprise us.

This year, our field trip took us to the heart of Marrakesh - a city rich with vibrant textures and tradition.

Winding through the narrow passages of the Medina, we experienced layers of history. The Madrasa Ben Youssef welcomed us with its intricate geometry and craftsmanship: carved wood, brilliant zellige tiles, and sculpted plaster seemed to speak of hands long gone, yet still present in each detail.

From the vibrant pulse of Jemaa el-Fnaa’s main square, buzzing with life and sound, to the serene shade of the Koutoubia Gardens, we found ourselves immersed in the contrasts that make Marrakesh so unforgettable.

We’ve successfully secured another planning application for our client in Dunmow!

The project involved thoughtfully remodeling and extending the existing house to create a spacious family kitchen and living area, while also adding shower facilities to the pool-house.
The client expressed interest in potentially incorporating the garage space into the living accommodations.

Through a creative design process, we developed a final design that beautifully aligns our vision with the client’s brief.
