A little different to my normal work…….this has taken a lot of work and multiple attempts and it was a BIG learning curve!
So my cousin had a baby last year and because she’s all the way over in Canada, it’s not possible to just nip round! So as I’m going over in the next few days, I felt it was right that I made a gift for them and their baby - Simon
Using a length of Ash, I cut slots all but 2mm through the width, then made redwood wedges to glue into the slots and slowly bend the wood into the arch that you see!!
This must have taken 5 attempts at least!
With the vision of making the letters and having them lines up on the base I thought why stop there! And routered a groove into the arch and fitted LED lights into the underside!
Finally I sanded it to within an inch of its life and got to a smooth, almost glass like finish.
I finished it with Osmo Oil, and this is the finished product!
It’s been a long process, but well worth it!
I’m happy with it……..I just hope they are!😂
