Plant of The Week
"Primula Auricula".
A stunning little garden plant, commonly known as "Bears Ears" . Its origins are in the Central European Mountains but hundreds of years of breeding have created some eye-catching varieties, especially in the "show" types. They have been grown in the UK since the 1700's but the Victorians really fell for them, showing them off in "Auricula Theatres" as in the picture .
The Show varieties are best grown in terracotta pots with well drained soil based compost, but the "Border" Varieties that are widely available can be planted in pots or a sunny border with a little grit added for drainage. A great place to see a great display is at Harrogate Flower Show .
