Spring has sprung 🌞 🙌 🌷

Over winter I planted approximately 1,500 spring bulbs, and today I saw the first of them open up their furled petals for the first time, it was such a delightful moment ☺️🙏😍

A few of them gathered together and celebrated the glorious sunshine by throwing their petals open and soaking in the warm rays☀️ The combination of sultry purple Iris George mingling with the sunshine yellow of Crocus was just the perfect combo😍🙏

I even saw a solitary Bumblebee emerge from the dried up leaves and buzz off for what might have been the first time this year 🐝 😊 I wished it well 🙏💫💗

The garden really held my heart and spirit in joy today😊🌞🙏

Raining cats and dogs today (not hens or money sadly) so of course off I went into the garden with a nice cup of tea and chocolate fix 👌

Dug up some lovely spuds, they are beauties, and the exciting thing is there’s lots more to be dug up😊🙏💫

Happiness = Growing your own chemical free wholesome food 🌱 👌

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one.

Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

Here’s an important reminder for all gardeners ! When you find egg clusters on your plant leaves, don’t assume they are bad. For example, this yellow cluster was on the bottom of a squash leaf. Many people would logically assume they were eggs of squash bugs. They are not. These are Lady beetle eggs - exactly what you want to have on your leaves and in your garden! 🐞So, here’s today’s reminder: never remove or destroy insects or eggs until you know for sure they are something you don’t want in your garden. Likely they are beneficial or at least neutral. Of all the bugs you may encounter in your garden, 99% are NOT harmful and many are beneficial. The rest are benign. If unsure, take a pic and use your phone app to ID it. Super easy and very important. 🙏

“When she applied to run in the Boston Marathon in 1966 they rejected her saying: “Women are not physiologically able to run a marathon, and we can’t take the liability.”
Then exactly 50 years ago today, on the day of the marathon, Bobbi Gibb hid in the bushes and waited for the race to begin. When about half of the runners had gone past she jumped in.
She wore her brother’s Bermuda shorts, a pair of boy’s sneakers, a bathing suit, and a sweatshirt. As she took off into the swarm of runners, Gibb started to feel overheated, but she didn’t remove her hoodie. “I knew if they saw me, they were going to try to stop me,” she said. “I even thought I might be arrested.”
It didn’t take long for male runners in Gibb’s vicinity to realize that she was not another man. Gibb expected them to shoulder her off the road, or call out to the police. Instead, the other runners told her that if anyone tried to interfere with her race, they would put a stop to it. Finally feeling secure and assured, Gibb took off her sweatshirt.
As soon as it became clear that there was a woman running in the marathon, the crowd erupted—not with anger or righteousness, but with pure joy, she recalled. Men cheered. Women cried.😥
By the time she reached Wellesley College, the news of her run had spread, and the female students were waiting for her, jumping and screaming. The governor of Massachusetts met her at the finish line and shook her hand. The first woman to ever run the marathon had finished in the top third.😀👍

Hi and welcome to the Enchanted Garden Pitlochry 😊🌱🌳🌻🐔🐛🦋🐌🪲🐜🐞🐝🕸️🌸💫

I started this project in 2021, with a strong pull to conserve this small piece of unused space for nature to be able to inhabit it freely, live, do their thing, thrive and be safe. A vision of something more then started to grow and I began experimenting with chemical free, organic growing of food and healing plants. I got some awesome hens☺️💗 They are great helpers in the garden. I work with some of the plants I grow to create Earth medicine, plants that contain gentle properties which lend themselves to supporting us humans with certain ailments and disease, helping to co-create harmony and balance, both in the natural environment and within the environment of our own bodies. Everything I grow contains what I would refer to as magical properties which heal/support/protect and strengthen the mind/body and it is all very soothing to the soul. I guess I am following the Ayurvedic principles of living and being in this world without it being intentional or planned. I am growing very organically into it all let’s say. There are no chemicals or harmful practices used in my growing of things. I am a caretaker of this land. I tend to the soil alongside the worms, the ants and all of the tiny little organisms that the eye can’t see. Everything is welcome, everything is an intrinsic thread in this very fragile yet perfectly structured and beautiful web of life🕸️ We are all sharing this earth together at this very brief and fleeting moment of time, I feel privileged and blessed to be a very small part of it all.

The garden is on the Main Street and is place to stop, pause, catch a breath, and observe the antics of the hens, and if you like purchase some organic veg or Earth craft, and have a chat with me if I’m in the garden😊

Sadly there is no public access as yet but you can observe some of what is going on from up on the roadside. It is early days and things still look a bit rough and unready and perhaps even ‘disenchanting’ to some😬🤣but the process from seed to full bloom takes time, patience, lots of mistakes, lots of hard work, perseverance, more time, sweat, tears, joy, tonnes of compost, tonnes of lovely manure, patience and of course some money for seeds and stuff! Be patient with me please is all I ask, I am learning as I ‘grow’!😉 (Had to get that in there!)

Hope the garden and the hens bring a wee smile to your face, and if not then I at least hope it ignites a bit of curiousity in that inner child about the ways in which we can reconnect to the earth and live more in harmony with all of her fascinating all creatures which all contribute to the fine balance of things💗

With love,
