This one took a while… but we got there in the end 🙌

We’re really pleased to share that planning was approved last week for this barn conversion into high-quality agricultural workers’ accommodation.

It wasn’t the most straightforward journey. The planners quite rightly required a number of changes to get it over the line, including:

Relocating the main entrance to the opposite side of the building

Moving the car parking to avoid direct access onto the country lane

Keeping the garden area small enough to avoid triggering BNG assessments

Making multiple adjustments to the site boundaries

There were plenty of moving parts on this one, but through careful revisions and ongoing discussions, we managed to reach a solution that works for everyone.

A great result and a testament to patience, collaboration and persistence 👏

Almost ready to submit the planning drawings for this L-shaped, single-storey extension in Plymouth. The brief was simple: a larger dining room for everyday living and entertaining, plus a dedicated home office space.

Taking a closer look at the exterior of this compact 37m² holiday dwelling—one of our earlier projects that still stands out for its clean, modern aesthetic.

The design features a simple rectangular form wrapped in natural timber cladding, giving the unit a warm and contemporary look that sits comfortably within the surrounding garden. The sloped roof adds subtle character while keeping the profile low and unobtrusive.

One of the key exterior moments is the large sliding doors that open directly onto a private patio area. To maintain uninterrupted views and a light, open feel, the patio is finished with a sleek glass balcony, creating a seamless visual connection between the interior and the garden beyond.

Sharing one of our earlier designs—a compact, modern single-storey holiday rental tucked within a garden alongside an existing home.

At just 37m², this small retreat showcases how thoughtful design can maximise comfort and style in a minimal footprint. The simple rectangular form, paired with a sloped roof and timber-clad exterior, gives the unit a warm, contemporary character that blends naturally with its surroundings.

✨ A Reception Reimagined – One Year On ✨

Looking back at this transformation from a year ago, it’s a reminder of how powerful thoughtful design can be.

The original office reception felt tired, uninviting, and cluttered — the kind of first impression that didn’t reflect the professionalism or energy of the people working inside.

As an architect, I don’t just think in terms of walls, doors, or materials. I’m always considering the character of the space — how it feels, how light moves through it, what kind of mood or impression it gives when someone walks in for the first time.

With this project, the goal was simple: create a space that feels calm, ordered, and welcoming — while staying practical and professional. A reception that sets the right tone.
