Last day on this particular job, with some cleaning and refilling of ponds; and some planting in the beds. They've got an incredible water feature that has 2 smaller ponds which flow down a brook to the main pond and the upper 2 needed a good clean

Some clients, you turn up do the work and go home. This particular client has been a joy to visit everytime over the last few months, slowly getting their garden into shape. It's been an absolute joy and privilege working for them.

They also got me a very generous parting gift which I look forwards to sampling!

You know who you are.

A little before and after, for a quick job I did the other week. Completely forgot to take any photos but the client sent these with sincere gratitude for doing the job.

Bamboo, part II - The revenge.

Heavy clay soil made this super hard work, 3 hours with spade and fork but nothing some brute force and questionable stubbornness can't deal with.

Bamboo. Looks lovely, but its a green thug.

If you do want it in the garden, consider growing in a pot where it can be contained. If you must plant it in the ground you need to consider a way to contain it. It's an aggressive grower and will quickly spread.

This bamboo was originally 8 feet high, then cut to the ground. After a week, it was waist height again.

Thankfully, this one was easy enough to remove by breaking into smaller pieces, followed by an extensive search for root fibres... I do NOT want to see it growing back!

Absolutely loving the colour on my Phlox, did nothing last year when I planted it, and took a while to get going this year but so worth the wait. Beautiful, so vibrant.

The Hydrangea we inherited when we moved in, in full bloom. Personally, I think Hydrangeas are on the beige spectrum but it is a burst of colour when I get home.

Every year, around the end of August or September, I deadhead it and cut it back by about a third. That's it. Every year it comes back bigger and brighter.

Interesting fact: Hydrangeas are generically White, but get their colour from the soil conditions!

Today I have been mostly trimming hedges with shears (note to self: buy a bloody hedgetrimmer!) and digging up bamboo roots. In heavy clay soil.

Strimming in what feels like 30 degrees (think it's only 25...) half way done (right hand was a long as the left side) and then finished, just a quick rake to bag up the waste.

Quick 2 hour job for a lovely new client who've just moved to the area. Quick strim, to get the lawn to a level where it's manageable for the lawn mower; hedge trim (out of shot on the right) quick w**d and tidy up. There was even a path there!

Very happy client! Will pop back next week with edging tools, the lawnmower and get the lawn cut to a uniform length, and finish off the w**ding.

Now that was a day of pressure washing. Years of mud, dirt, moss and w**ds growing through the bricks. 7 hours of w**ding, clearing and pressure washing with my trusty later and it looks incredible!

I don't recall planting it, I think it's Aquilegia (but am most likely wrong) but the Bees are loving it. I will never grow tired of hearing the Bees buzzing round my garden.
