After the last two weeks of pretty dire weather, I finally completed this lovely property in Portsmouth.
As mentioned in previous posts, all work carried out on the bay was done using Toupret fine and Toupret rock solid filler.
The joints on the ceramic brickwork were cleaned out and then grouted, again using Toupret fine filler.
Then the brickwork was rubbed down and primed using Zinsser 1-2-3 primer ready for painting.
Two coats of masonry (Vermont grey) paint from Brewers was applied to the brickwork and the plastic downpipe was painted using a black multi purpose gloss.
Now a much brighter, fresher bay/frontage πŸ‘

It's taken a bit longer than planned to get the top of this bay to this stage, partly due to the plastic trim that was fitted when the windows were installed eroding the sandstone which I removed.
Then filled with Toupret rock solid filler in the deep areas, then Toupret fine filler over the top and rubbed down to a smooth flat finish.
A seal coat has now been applied and the ornate stonework to the left of the front door is almost done, just a bit more fettling.
Though taking longer than I'd planned, I've really enjoyed getting it to this stage and hopefully I'm doing this lovely old house justice, the painting shouldn't take too long and I'm looking forward to it being completed soonπŸ‘

Finally, no thanks to the weather, managed to get the filling and fine detailing nearly finished on the lower part of the bay ready for painting, just a few small areas to work on, then the
scaffold up on Monday ready for the topπŸ‘

Not long started this house in Portsmouth.
The paintwork was pretty poor, so burning it off has been quite easy.
Fortunately, the stonework is in fairly good condition for it's age and by going back to the bare stone really shows the fine details in this lovely old bay.
Next, repair and make good the ornate ledges and detail etcπŸ‘

The same customers in Dorset as the vegetable growing area, had this part of the garden which laid very wet and boggy in the winter and a bit of a dead space.
A footing was put in place and one course of brickwork laid to raise the area out of the ground.
The customers had old oak sleepers and reclaimed bricks which they wanted to reuse.
Once the bricks were laid, a concrete base was laid for the patio and the path.
Sandstone paving was laid on a continuous mortar bed and primer adhesive applied to the back of the slabs, then pointed in using a 4-1mortar mix and finished in an old cathedral pointing style.
The area is now a clean practical area for their wood storage, but also a nice place to sit and look out onto their garden with a morning cuppa β˜•πŸ‘

This vegetable growing area in Dorset has been done in stages, which worked well for the customers and myself.
Towards the end of last year a concrete post and gravel board retaining wall was installed to stabilise the ground alongside the ditch.
Then the remainder of the block work was built and the path concreted.
Two weeks ago two small steps were built to finally complete the job.
All now ready for the growing season ahead πŸ‘

The customers for this job in Portsmouth wanted this colour scheme, but found the blue paint, as in the first photo scrolling up they bought kept fading after a couple of years, so new paint was supplied, as seen in the last photo.
Previous painters had just gone over the top.
So, first job was to take off all loose paint work, which as most of these bays, tends to grow, but fortunately not by much.
Then, toupret fine filler was used to smooth out certain areas and restore ledges, due to budget, a full repair/restoration couldn't be done, but now all paintwork is now stabilised.
Two coats of both colours were applied, now a brighter frontage ready for the spring/summe.r πŸ‘

The customers for this job in Portsmouth wanted the patio relaid, as the roots of the wisteria were growing underneath making it very uneven, due to no continuous mortar bed laid, allowing the roots to fill the voids.
Slabs were taken up and cleaned ready for relaying, all roots removed and existing sub base re levelled and consolidated ready for paving.
A staggered joint for the slabs was suggested which the customer liked, then laid them on a continuous sharp sand and cement bed, applying primer adhesive to the underside and pointed in using a 4-1 mortar mix.
Also, the wooden sleepers at the front were rotten, so new ones were installed.
Though not new paving, it's now a level, much neater looking spaceπŸ‘

I finally got a day to take some pictures of this project on Hayling island with the sun shining.
I started this job before Christmas, taking down the old summer house.
In January, I managed to get the base ready for the new one which was supplied and installed by Elfords in Hilsea, I can't rate Dean and his team highly enough, from start to finish.
The customer decided to add on having the patio installed.
Indian limestone paving, laid on a 5-1sharp and cement continuous bed and pointed in with a 4-1 mortar mix, with a traditional finish, now giving this garden a fresh new lookπŸ‘

First job of the year and great to be back.
This old summer house had finally given up after 90 years and beyond repair.
After being dismantled, shuttering and a hardcore base was installed ready for the concrete hardstand, now ready for the new summer house to be installed next week.
Also, the old concrete path/hardstand was taken up, the ground underneath was very firm, ideal for a crushed hardcore base to be put down and consolidated, ready for paving, also next week, weather permitting. 🀞
But definitely all ready for the spring β˜€οΈπŸ‘
