Even without flowers🪾🪾
even without leaves🍂🍂
a tree still stands in quiet grace🪾🌷
its branches writing stories in the sky

Bare arms reaching through the wind,
strong from seasons lived and lost,
it does not beg for color
to prove its beauty.

And at its feet,
a gentle circle of blooming flowers🌼🌸
a small garden of whispers and color🍀☘️
resting like a crown upon the earth🌻

The tree stands simple
the flowers shine bright🪻🪻
together they speak a quiet truth🌹

Beauty is not only in bloom🍁
sometimes it is in standing tall🌳
while life blossoms softly around you. 🌿🌸

Lately I started a small hobby that brings me so much peace. 🌿🎶

I love mixing beautiful nature videos with a song that I really enjoy. When I replay the video, it feels like a little escape from the busy world. The trees, the sky, the flowing water, together with the music, calm both my eyes and my mind.

Sometimes the simplest things can give the deepest peace. Nature and music together create a moment of quiet happiness. 💚

I recently had the privilege of participating as a panellist in the British Council's Alumni UK South Asia Regional Webinar. Representing Sri Lanka, I shared my experiences and perspectives on how UK alumni can drive collaboration and impact across the region, particularly in the areas of climate action and urban sustainability. Participating in the panel discussion was an enriching and memorable experience that allowed me to share my academic journey, research insights, and passion for environmental advocacy with a diverse audience of fellow alumni and professionals across the region.
The panel discussion was not only an opportunity to share my story but also a platform to listen, learn, and connect with inspiring alumni from across South Asia working in diverse fields. It reminded me of the power of networks in amplifying individual efforts and transforming them into collective impact. I left the session feeling motivated to continue actively contributing to Alumni UK and building stronger regional collaborations that advance environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and inclusive growth.

I am truly delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute my thoughts to the recent awareness program featured in Daily Mirror ; “Elephant Free Elephant Walk: A Cultural Revolution for Climate Justice and Wildlife Protection”, published in the Daily Mirror on 16 August 2024. It gives me immense happiness to see education, creativity, and community engagement being highlighted as powerful tools in addressing urgent issues such as waste management, climate change, and human–elephant conflict.

My sincere thanks to Ahsan Afthar, the writer of this article, for reaching out to me and including my perspective. The article highlights how Grassrooted and the people of Ibbagamuwa created a Perahera without elephants, utilising art, puppetry, and waste materials to address climate change, plastic pollution, and the need to protect wildlife with compassion. I deeply appreciate his effort in bringing attention to these pressing environmental challenges and for creating a platform that connects people, ideas, and action.

Although there was a small error in my photo and the attached caption (caption is from my loving friend Shanika Lakmali), I believe it is a very interesting and worthwhile article to read.
