🏡 Window Reveal Repairs & Plastering

Following the installation of new windows, there was a 50mm gap around the full perimeter that required making good.

For this project, I chose to:

* Dot and dab 9.5mm plasterboard into the 50mm gaps
* Apply scrim tape to all joints
* Plaster around each window reveal, feathering seamlessly into the existing plasterwork

This type of work is far more intricate than it may first appear. It requires time, patience, and a steady hand, especially when working around expensive aluminium window frames that need protecting throughout the process.

The job was completed to a high standard, with all surrounding areas left clean and tidy. The windows were carefully protected throughout, leaving the frames unmarked and fully cleaned down on completion.

Quality preparation and attention to detail make all the difference to the finished result.

📖 I often get asked by the customer “ what is dot and dabbing “

It’s one of the options I offer when pricing to go over blockwork.

Other backgrounds may need other options like sand and cement / hardwall….

Dot and dab is a plasterboarding method used to create a smooth, level finish on masonry walls such as blockwork or brickwork. The process involves fixing plasterboards directly onto the wall using a strong adhesive rather than timber battens or metal framing.

What’s involved in the process:

* Preparing the blockwork surface by removing dust and loose material to ensure a solid bond
* Applying drywall adhesive in evenly spaced “dots and dabs” across the wall
* Fixing plasterboards onto the adhesive and levelling them to create a straight, flat finish
* Allowing space for services where required, such as cables or pipework
* Reinforcing joints and internal angles with scrim tape to help prevent cracking
* Skimming the plasterboards with finishing plaster to achieve a smooth surface ready for decorating

Benefits of dot and dab:

* Creates a clean, modern finish on uneven blockwork
* Faster and more cost-effective than traditional wet plastering
* Helps improve insulation and overall wall finish
* Provides a solid, durable surface ready for painting or decorating
