A tricky 2-3 metre reduction on this protected leggy Eucalyptus in Golders Green with Longacre Tree Surgery. The tree had previously been subjected to a very heavy pollard down to a height of 5 metres. There were 10 metre vertical and lateral poles from those unions only as thick as your forearms which moved considerably with the wind and me at the tips of them. Fortunately a characteristic of this type of timber is its strength!

Before, After and during the balancing and crown cleaning of a large majestic Sycamore in Much Hadham with Longacre Tree Surgery. The tree was located within the conservation area and overhung a grade 2 listed building. Permission was sort and granted for this sensitive fine pruning work.

My view of Witanhurst House yesterday from the tree tops of Highgate. It is Londons second largest private residence only after Buckingham Palace with over 90,000 square feet of space!

This cherry tree had been heavily pollarded previously leaving 30ft vertical poles on compromised unions. A 20% reduction was the specification we had to work to which meant climbing like an incredibly light footed squirrel to get around the canopy. Working with Longacre Tree Surgery

Dormant pruning is the process of remedial pruning on trees when they are not actively growing.

*Lifting low hanging branches.

*Removing dead, damaged or broken limbs.

*Creating space between structures and the landscaping.

*Crown reductions and crown thinning.

Plants can also withstand more dramatic pruning at this time of so it’s a good time to address overgrown shrubs and hedges too.

* During winter the trees structure is more readily visible. Crossing branches and diseased or weak limbs can be removed before they become a hazard in spring.
* Winter pruning will mean minimal sap loss which should put less stress on the tree.
* The spread of disease is heavily reduced as many diseases and insects are dormant so there is less chance of pathogens actively infecting plants through the open pruning cuts.
* Dormant pruning results in new growth in spring. The new foliage has time to harden off before the hotter temperatures of summer.
* Tree canopy cleaning can be achieved efficiently during winter which will help to create more sunlight pe*******on to grass and flower beds.

Working with Longacre Tree Surgery, we were asked to remove this veteran Ash tree due the extensive decay in the trunk. Removal is the last thing we want to recommend and always try to find a way of keeping trees. Due to the decaying wood this particular specimen was a rich habitat haven for insects and fauna, our recommendation was to reduce the crown and monitor the trees condition regularly. We reduced the extended lateral branches, brought down the height to relieve some of the stress on the unions and removed the deadwood and crown lifted some of the lower branches. This remedial work should reduce the chances of the tree failing.

It was a pleasure climbing and giving this large notable mature Sycamore a 20% reduction. Even though the tree was about 20m tall the canopy didn’t lend itself well for aerial access as the diameter of the lateral branches were not substantial making it a tricky climb. That being said a great sensitive reduction and shape was achieved.

The lateral branches on this Ash tree were overhanging the curtilage of the property and extending over the neighbours garden and conservatory.

The home owners initially wanted to remove the tree however both were happy with my suggestion of an overall reduction of the canopy and the removal of some of the lower branches.

The tree was pruned in accordance to British Standards 3998 (2010) and all cuts were made my hand using a Silky handsaw causing minimal disturbance to those outside in their gardens enjoying the Sun or working from home.

The client and neighbour were very happy with the outcome.

Recently reduced this lovely Acacia tree in a Conservation area and removed the deadwood. If you zoom in you can see all cuts are made to suitable growth points helping to achieve a great natural shape and giving the tree the best chance of recovery. All the pruning was undertaken by hand with a Silky hand saw.
