Gardening is all about experimenting & editing! Gently exploring what works in your garden - there’s no such thing as an instant garden, time & patience is needed!
A couple of years ago I went on a gravel gardening course run by the wonderful Derry Watkins & I thought I’d share how my own small gravel garden is starting to develop.
Essentially I cleared this border 2 years ago removing & repurposing the top soil, then added gravel to depth of between 15/20cm.
I’ve planted directly into the gravel, given the new plants an initial water but then left them to get on with it. As you can see the plants are very happy in this medium. The foliage get lots of sunshine whilst their roots enjoy the cool, moisture retentive environment of the gravel, win win 🤗
I also like how the gravel area creates a contrasting calm void amongst the mass of the surrounding borders.
Note to self must try to sit in this area & not just do 😂🌱
