These beautiful flowers are from Erythronium bulbs, also known as dogs tooth Violet.

The yellow is pagoda and is a more common variety. The white is a white beauty, it is a smaller variety and slightly harder to come by.

They like humus rich, well drained soil, in part shade that doesn’t dry out. They can be propagated by devision after flowering in Spring.

Garden Pests:
Today we have spotted the red lily beetle on our lilies. If you spot them too, pick them off before they eat their way through the lily and lay their eggs on the underside of the leaf. When the larvae emerge they will also continue to munch their way through your prized plant.

Also spotted today on a box ball was the box caterpillar. We picked off 25 in five minutes. We left them out for the birds to eat. For advice on how to control them or for alternative plants to use see the link in our Bio.

This week we are delighted to take delivery of our new range of Eco friendly gardening power tools, which are all battery operated and as such more friendly for the environment. It is great timing too as we celebrated Earth day on Thursday.

Shocking fact: even new petrol lawn mowers spew out as much pollution in an hour as a car travelling 93 miles!

Our new tools are from the EGO range and they specialise in battery operated equipment. We will no longer be using any petrol tools.
