Damp Proofing repair – Mid Terraced Property Lounge‼️

We were contacted by a homeowner following a full property survey they had carried out, which identified elevated moisture levels across all lounge walls. The survey recommended damp-proofing works to protect future decorative finishes from the effects of rising damp and salt contamination.

During our own inspection, we confirmed high moisture readings at the lower sections of the walls. We also noted that parts of the property are built into a hillside, leaving some walls approximately 1–2 feet below external ground level, which can increase moisture levels.

Repair:
- Removal of contaminated plaster and render back to the original stone/brickwork✅
- Installation of a new Damp Proof Course (DPC)✅
- Application of a damp proofing membrane to provide an effective barrier against salt contamination and moisture✅

Following completion of the damp proofing system, the walls will be ready for replastering or can be finished using standard dry-lining (dot and dab) methods after approximately 24 hours.
A long-lasting solution has now been put in place, ensuring the new decorative finishes are protected from moisture-related damage and salt contamination.

Salt Contamination to Party/Joining Wall – Terrace Property‼️

A Customer recently began renovation works and discovered signs of dampness below the staircase area. We were instructed to carry out an inspection and provide recommendations for a long-term solution prior to redecorating.

Following an inspection, we found that the neighbouring chimney breast is positioned directly behind the affected area. After the customer ruled out roof defects and any active water ingress, it became clear that the issue was caused by hygroscopic salt contamination.
Over time, burning of fossil fuels within chimney flues can leave behind sulphate and chloride salts within surrounding masonry. These salts can attract moisture from inside the property, which can result in persistent damp patches and decorative issues internally, even in the absence of an active leak.

Repair:
- Removal of all salt-contaminated plaster and mortar down to the original brick/stonework✅
- Installation of a new Damp Proof Course (DPC) ✅
- Application of a damp proofing membrane to act as a salt and moisture barrier ✅

This repair will provide a long-term solution, preventing further salt contamination and protecting the new decorative finishes.

The treated surface will be ready for plastering, or alternatively standard dry lining dot and dab techniques can be used 24 hours after the damp proofing treatment⏳

Hygroscopic Salt & Moisture Repair – Chimney Breast / Party Wall‼️

We were contacted by a customer experiencing damp patches and salt contamination on their staircase wall, and were asked to provide a long-term solution to protect the new decorative surface from future contamination.

On inspection, we identified the issue on the adjoining party wall, directly in line with the neighbouring chimney breast. This is a common problem in older properties, caused by sulphate and chloride salts that accumulate within chimney breast over many years of burning fossil fuels. These hygroscopic salts attract moisture from the air inside the property, resulting in damp patches, staining and salt efflorescence.

Repair Works Completed
- Removal of all salt-contaminated plaster and mortar ✅
- Installation of a damp proofing membrane to act as a salt and moisture barrier ✅

Wall can be plastered or standard dry lining dot and dab techniques can be used 24 hours after the damp proofing treatment⏳

We also advised the customer to ensure there are no defects within the roof or chimney structure that could allow rainwater ingress into the chimney breast, as this can contribute to ongoing moisture issues.

Rising & Penetrating Damp Treatment‼️

We were contacted regarding damp issues affecting a front external wall in a rental property, with moisture present from floor to ceiling and impacting the internal decorative finish. The customer required a long-term solution to protect the external wall from both rising and penetrating damp.

On inspection, salt contamination was identified at both low and high levels internally. After further inspection, we noticed the deteriorated external pointing and highly porous stonework, contributing to water ingress.

Repair:
* Removal of contaminated internal plaster and mortar✅
* Installation of a new Damp Proof Course (DPC)✅
* Application of a damp proofing membrane (salt and moisture barrier)✅
* Repointing of external stonework by ✅
* Chemical weather sealing of stonework to reduce water absorption by up to 95%✅

This combined internal and external treatment addresses both rising and penetrating damp. The breathable weather seal protects the masonry from further ingress while allowing trapped moisture to escape externally, ensuring a durable and effective solution.

Wall can be plastered or standard dry lining dot and dab techniques can be used 24 hours after the damp proofing repairs⏳

Hygroscopic Moisture & Salt Contamination Repair – Chimney Breast Wall‼️

Customer contacted us regarding damp patches affecting a bedroom chimney breast wall. Multiple areas showed visible staining and high moisture levels.

On inspection, we found hygroscopic salt/moisture contamination on the decorative surface. The wall is a black mortar finish with no effective barrier to prevent salt and moisture ingress, leading to the localised damp issues present.

Repair:
- Removal of all contaminated plaster and mortar✅
- Application of a damp proofing membrane to act as a salt and moisture barrier✅

The treated surface will be ready for re-plastering or standard dry lining (dot and dab) approximately 24 hours after completion of the damp proofing repair⏳

This solution provides a durable, long-term barrier against further hygroscopic moisture and salt-related issues, ensuring the integrity of the final decorative finish.

Hygroscopic Moisture Repair – Chimney Breast / Party Wall‼️

Customer contacted us to investigate a damp issue affecting the passage party wall of their property. The wall is a solid stone construction shared with the neighbouring property.

On inspection, we identified clear signs of hygroscopic moisture contamination on the party wall. This was concentrated in the area corresponding with the neighbouring property’s chimney breast.
In older properties, this type of issue is commonly caused by the presence of hygroscopic salts (such as sulphates and nitrates), which accumulate over time as a result of burning fossil fuels overtime. These salts attract moisture from the atmosphere, leading to persistent damp patches that can often be mistaken for penetrating damp.
We also picked up high moisture readings on the lower level of the wall, indicating the early stages of a potential rising damp issue.

Repair:
- Removal of all contaminated plaster, render, and mortar✅
- Installation of a Damp Proof Course (DPC)✅
- Application of a damp proofing membrane to act as a salt and moisture barrier✅

Following completion of the damp-proofing system, the wall can be replastered or finished using standard dry lining (dot and dab) techniques 24 hours after the damp proofing treatment⏳

Improving your indoor air quality creating a healthier living environment‼️

This is an installation of a Positive Input Ventilation system (PIV Unit) to tackle condensation/mould growth.

Installation of a PIV Unit would introduce a better quality of air and in turn controlling condensation and preventing mould growth.

A PIV Unit draws fresh air from outside into the unit in the loft, where the air is filtered and supplied into the home through the ceiling diffuser. The unit pressurises the home, helping to dilute, displace and replace the moist, stale air with fresh, filtered air.

Before installation we ensure that the loft is suitably insulated and is well ventilated.

PIV Unit benefits:
- Help reduce humidity levels, controlling condensation and preventing mould growth
- Removes indoor and outdoor pollutants from the property and improving indoor air quality
- Low energy consumption
- Benefits asthma sufferers

Damp Proofing repair – Front & Rear External Walls and Chimney Breasts‼️

Customer contacted us regarding visible damp patches affecting several walls within the main living area, including the original front and rear external walls, as well as both chimney breasts (from when the room was previously divided into two separate rooms).

Inspection:
On inspection, high moisture readings were recorded across the affected areas. After further inspection we identified the presence of hygroscopic salts within the plaster, which were contributing to persistent surface dampness.

The contamination to the chimney breasts is consistent with prolonged historical use of fossil fuels (such as coal or wood). Gases, when combined with moisture, form hygroscopic salts, including sulphates, nitrates, and chlorides. These salts become embedded within the masonry, mortar, and plaster, where they attract moisture from the atmosphere, resulting in ongoing damp patches despite no active water ingress.

Repair:
- Removal of all salt-contaminated plaster/render✅
- Installation of a new Damp Proof Course (DPC)✅
- Application of a damp proofing membrane to act as a physical barrier against hygroscopic salts and moisture✅

After the above treatment, the walls will be suitable for re-plastering or standard dry lining (dot and dab techniques)after a minimum curing period of 24 hours⏳
