Project Number 2 is officially finished! ✅
I’ve been busy working on this beautiful Grade II listed house in North Yorkshire, and I’m so proud of how it turned out. We didn't take any shortcuts on this one—the owner wanted everything done properly to keep the house in great shape for years to come.
First, we did a full repoint of the front and the side of the house. We actually sent a piece of the old mortar to a lab to be tested, so we could match it as closely as possible to the original, using a special quicklime mix. While we were at it, we pulled out a massive pile of old rusty nails and hooks that had been stuck in the stone for years—you can see in the pictures just how much there was!
We also had to rebuild small parts of the wall and fit 8 metal stitches to stop some old cracks from moving. One of the most satisfying parts was fixing the stone around the windows. A previous owner had tried to fix them with cement, which isn't good for the stone, so we stripped that back and did a proper stone repair.
To top it all off, the house is now protected from damp with a new French drain outside and a lovely three-layer lime plaster finish on the inside. It was a big job, but what a fantastic result!
A huge thank you to the owner for trusting me with your home.
