Project Number 2 is officially finished! ✅
I’ve been busy working on this beautiful Grade II listed house in North Yorkshire, and I’m so proud of how it turned out. We didn't take any shortcuts on this one—the owner wanted everything done properly to keep the house in great shape for years to come.
First, we did a full repoint of the front and the side of the house. We actually sent a piece of the old mortar to a lab to be tested, so we could match it as closely as possible to the original, using a special quicklime mix. While we were at it, we pulled out a massive pile of old rusty nails and hooks that had been stuck in the stone for years—you can see in the pictures just how much there was!
We also had to rebuild small parts of the wall and fit 8 metal stitches to stop some old cracks from moving. One of the most satisfying parts was fixing the stone around the windows. A previous owner had tried to fix them with cement, which isn't good for the stone, so we stripped that back and did a proper stone repair.
To top it all off, the house is now protected from damp with a new French drain outside and a lovely three-layer lime plaster finish on the inside. It was a big job, but what a fantastic result!
A huge thank you to the owner for trusting me with your home.

Finally finished! This soft limestone had been badly damaged by old cement pointing, which was accelerating the weathering and causing the stone to fail.
We’ve spent the last few weeks stripping it back, replacing the damaged stone, and repointing with a traditional hot lime mix. It took 4 weeks to set, but the building can finally 'breathe' again.
Doing it the right way is always worth the extra time.

We recently finished a small job repairing the bottom courses of a brick structure, which involved removing cement-based pointing and rebuilding a rounded corner. This was our last project with quick lime for the year due to the slow drying process caused by the changing weather. We're now moving inside to plaster some walls for a new project. Stay tuned for updates!

Restoration of a Beautiful Period Property in North Yorkshire
We're thrilled to share the results of our latest restoration project! With a deep respect for the history and craftsmanship of this stunning property, we’ve worked tirelessly to bring it back to its former glory.

In the first stage, we carefully removed layers of cement render and modern paints that had been trapping moisture, causing damage over time. We then installed natural stone lintels above several windows and doors.

Some sections of the structure required rebuilding, and we replaced over 150 damaged bricks, always adhering to ‘like for like’ restoration principles. Finally, we finished the project with a lime mortar repointing, using quick lime to ensure breathability and longevity for the property.

We couldn’t be happier with the result and are proud to have helped preserve this piece of history for generations to come!

Here are some pictures of a small job we recently completed. We replaced damaged bricks and removed strong cement pointing, which was causing damage to the brickwork and allowing dampness to pe*****te the internal structure. Instead, we used a much softer, non-hydraulic lime mix that will extend the life of the bricks and prevent dampness from getting in. #
