Woken up this morning to find your boiler’s not working? Before you ring a plumber, read this post…

First, log onto your boiler manufacturer’s website and check the error code displaying on your boiler. Chances are has frozen your condensate pipe and stopped the boiler from working. You can safely defrost this yourself.

What is the condensate pipe? It’s a pipe that allows condensation to run out of your boiler, and it runs from the boiler to the outside of your property. See the picture for an example.

How can you thaw it? You could fill a hot water bottle and place it on the pipe for a while, or use a heat wrap – the kind that you use on sore muscles. You could also use a hair dryer. The quickest way is pouring warm (NOT HOT!) water on it. NEVER use boiling water - you don't want it to crack.

Once the pipe is thawed, it’s a good idea to lag it – ie cover it with pipe insulation – to stop it from freezing again.

Here's an example of what a condensate pipe looks like. This one is black; yours might be white. As you can see, this was once insulated (the grey foam along the right side of the pipe), but the lagging has mostly come off. Time to add some more.

Stay safe and warm, people! Feel free to share this post with anyone in need.

Boss Monkey is getting his usual mobile phone fixed, and is relying on an old phone in the meantime.

You can still reach him on his usual number, but there are several messages that he saved on his phone that he currently can't access. If we recently promised to get back to you, therefore, do please know that we definitely will do, but it might take a little longer than normal while we wait to get those messages back!

Feel free to send us another message, or call, if you're waiting, and we'll get back to you asap.

No more new jobs taken on now until 2022! Have a very merry Christmas, one and all. See you on the other side.🎄🎅🥳😴
