Finally got round to building a custom pocket door to finish the kitchen off. It took quite a bit of work fabricating the mitred profiles that would give the illusion of the continuation of the panel but the finished effect is just as I’d hoped for.

After many many stages of construction it’s great to add some final fix details. There’s not many soft furnishings in this area so this acoustic panelling is going in several areas to break up the sound waves and bring some wood tones to the space

I normally sub contract plastering for many reasons but having decorators booked in before the plasterer can get here again forced my hand as I really want to get this room finished off asap!

In 2009 I built this 5000 gallon koi pond as part of a full garden makeover project. Almost 15 years down the line the owners are moving out but the pond is a red flag for a family so cue some demolition work to ensure any residual water can drain away and then an extension of the decking to repurpose it into a useable and safe space. A weird couple of days destroying months of hard work but everything has its day and hopefully the space can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Work in progress; these tower units would have been spot on if the builders hadn’t installed the steels too low but then I’ve still never done a kitchen that didn’t need some cabinets modifying! Cut these doors down to a working height, cut new hinge holes then flipped the off cut round and scribed it in as a filler panel with the factory edge down so you’d never know 👌🏼

This pond was not ideal with 2 small children loose in the garden! Back filled with rubble with a concrete screed to keep the option of reinstating it in the future. The posts were originally for a shade sail but the plan evolved and instead a slatted timber frame gives some dappled shade and helps demarcate the dining area.
