Here's one of our qualified arborists carrying out a tree survey report at a property. We list the trees scientific names, details about their condition and whether or not they should be removed and why. Throwback to the time we cleared some fallen poplars and cut back damaged branches on some remaining trees after heavy winds felled a few of these old poplar trees in Chandlers Cross, England. After clearing the trees we leveled and left the stumps.

A Little Bit About Poplars: 🍃

Poplars are tall trees that have beautiful swaying branches with resinous buds. They love lots of light and moisture. The wood is an excellent choice for construction and all kinds of woodworking as it is both lightweight and durable.

What do Plane Trees and John Cena have in common? They both adore and look fab in military camouflage! (for comparison and to see if you can spot the Plane tree, see photo number 4).

Plane trees are all over London and other major towns and cities worldwide. Primarily this is for practical reasons, their underappreciated and beautiful bark is shed frequently, which makes the tree resistant to the heavy pollution found in most big towns and cities. As well as this, their root systems are okay with being squished. They're also recognisable from their five-pointed leaves and spherical catkins which ripen into little brown balls in the autumn.

On this job for in Centenary Park in Stanmore, the nearby astroturf football fields were damaged by the Plane trees' roots, so they were re-pollarded. Each year, we perform these cyclical maintenance tasks to cut down on the amount of water the trees need, hence reducing the likelihood of soil shrinkage and subsequent damage.

Here are some photos of the team during and after our massive job in Northolt, working on a Leyland hedge reduction. Leyland's are so dense because they are planted quite close together, so they compete for light and grow very quickly. Once they're at the desired height then just the outer branches need pruning which results in more sideward growth and dense foliage. After only a few years they offer good relief from the wind as well as privacy for properties. We always try to trim them when it's somewhat overcast in order to be kind to the tree but a blue sky in England doesn't hurt, especially with our helmets.
