One of the questions we come back to at the beginning of a project is a simple one: how do you want your home to feel?

Clients often come to us with images they love, colours they’re drawn to or a good idea of what they don’t want. All of that is useful, but it’s only part of the picture.
We also want to understand how they want to live.

Perhaps the house needs to feel calmer. More grown-up, but never formal. Better for entertaining. Easier for family life. Or simply more like them than it does now.
Those conversations give us far more to work with than choosing a style ever could.

Because ultimately, we’re not trying to give every client a By Two Studio ‘look’.

We’re trying to create a home that feels completely right for the people living in it.

As a St Albans-based interior design studio, it’s always lovely to contribute to conversations happening within our local community.

The socket exactly where you need it.

Lighting that changes the atmosphere of a room at night.

Storage that absorbs everyday life.

A cohesive home doesn't mean making every room look the same.

Quite the opposite.

Each space can have its own personality while still feeling connected to the home around it.

We might repeat a material, carry a tone from one room into another, echo a detail or subtly change the intensity of a colour.

This is interior design too.

Long before the furniture arrives and the finishing touches are added, decisions are being made that will shape how the finished home looks, feels and functions.

Lighting positions. Electrical points. Bathroom layouts. Joinery. Materials. Sightlines. Furniture placement.

On a large renovation or new-build project, interior design doesn't begin when construction finishes.

It belongs within the process from the beginning.

And for us, this stage is every bit as exciting as seeing the finished home.

A successful renovation might create better storage, improve the lighting, introduce warmth and character, or simply make a room finally feel connected to the rest of the home.

Those changes aren't always obvious in a photograph.
