It was a big one, but probably not quite that tall!
This job was tricky and was the second to last big tree of the year for me and the team. It's nice to hear some appreciation from one of our valued customers.

It's been a hell of a year with some up's and down's (pun intended😎), and I would just like to say thank you to all those who have supported us in myriad ways including friends old and new, customers, family, 'competitors', and even compassionate strangers.

Wishing you all a lovely Christmas, and hoping for a prosperous New year. 🤞

Only a handful of people will appreciate this!

It takes experience, skill, and intuition from the guy on the rope to safely rig large lumps of wood down.

Tree work is a team effort and it's this kind of fluidity that makes it so much fun!

Last night at roughly ten to 11 my container was broken into.... Again 🙄. Currently going through CCTV.

Different yard from last time as we had to move.

Timberwolf 230dhb with roughly 110 hours on it.
All Stihl:

Km131r and hedge cutter attachment
& a few other climbing kit bits.

Luckily they left me the rakes and my boots this time👍.

The chipper will be missing the front part of the left mudgaurd as they had to cut it off with my loppers because the caught it on the fence.

We will try to continue as normal for now using borrowed equipment from friends but things will be tough for a while. Please bare with us if you are already booked in.

Absolutely thrilled to be working on this 251 year old black mulberry today.

The tree was originally a cutting from Shakespeare's garden and has been thriving in Hastings old town ever since..

But today was also special because we were asked to select 100 cuttings which have been sold to people who have donated money to save another tree.
The ancient mulberry in Bethnal Green is under threat from developers and the locals needed to raise £10,000 so that Dame Judy Dench herself can take them to the High court to overturn the decision! She has been waiting for one of the cuttings from this very tree for a while now, but we needed to time the pruning to maximise the survival of the new trees.

This for me, and the team encompasses everything we love about Arboriculture! Pruning a wonderfully historic and important tree to save another. Fingers crossed the descion goes her way.

You know its cold when you get down for a coffee, and the sap from the cuts you just did has frozen!! 🥶

On the plus side the sap is now rising in a few species, which means spring is just around the corner!! Hang in there.. 🌻🌱👍👍

Few pics from the weekend....
Had an emergency call out due to this twin stemmed oak failing on a calm day?!

It landed on an asbestos roof and a caravan. Necessary precautions were taken and we managed to get it down with minimal damage.

The tree was growing in a dip which had flooded and after inspecting the snapped roots we found honey fungus decay on one of the stems, and as they were sharing a root plate they both fell over!

We will be available for emergency call outs over the Xmas break
(but only real emergencies!)

A bit of deadwooding of these 2 giant redwoods this week.
At only just over 100feet tall these trees are still babies!
And even though it was hard graft and there was a ton of mess to clear up I still feel privileged to have worked on them.
We don't get to climb them too often and it's been about 5 years since my last one.

There's no feeling quite like it when you poke your head out the top! and just being in the huge volume of canopy makes you feel rather tiny and insignificant... Its great place to escape, and connect with one of nature's biggest and oldest wonders.
