I thought it would be nice this year to put up a Christmas tree at Jack's house to add to the usual lights I put up. Managed to get a decent tree from B&Q Altrincham and they gave us 10% off. I'm not the best at decorating tree's but wanted to try to create a bit of Christmas magic for the children and staff. It looks even better at night!

Lawns have finally recovered after an awful year of drought. The selective weedkiller and autumn feeds have brought them back looking a bit better. It has also helped not cutting too short and cross cutting where possible. It really annoys me when I see other gardeners or maintenance workers absolutely scalping lawns to death. Theres also a couple of pics of jacks house raised beds which I planted last year. Maturing nicely and put on a good display for the children and parents there again.

A new year and a new site. Bollington mill at Dunham massey is the latest on the books. A beautiful place to work but a very challenging one. The carpark, entrance, fenced paddock and raised garden are easily sorted over a few visits but the Riverside Gardens are going to be tricky. The floods over the winter have washed areas away and silted up the rest of it. This garden was created by dedicated residents over just a few years and provided a peaceful space next to the river. I am determined to bring this garden back but I will need to build the river bank up once again and strengthen it. For this I will drive stakes along the bank. Fill it with all the branches, sand, rocks and debris. Then plant it up with willow saplings. Hopefully it can bed in enough before the next catastrophe.

What a fantastic year 2024 was. Looking back at all the pictures I took is so satisfying. There's been so many enjoyable days and so much achieved. It's not been easy at times but spending time in these beautiful gardens creating my own peaceful environment makes it all alot easier to process. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. If you feel stressed go to a garden and just sit quietly. It's the best therapy out there.
2025 is shaping up to be another successful year. Looking forward to each and every day!

All year round

We are looking for an experienced gardener to join our grounds maintenance company. Maintaining mostly high end residential and commercial properties throughout south Manchester/Cheshire including gawsworth hall, sites in prestbury, alderley edge, wilmslow, hale, Bramhall and Altrincham. All sites are kept to an extremely high standard which is why we are the go to gardeners for many of the management companies in the area.

This is a great opportunity for a career in gardening with opportunity's to take formal qualifications and training. We have alot of really enjoyable sites which we take great pride in. Weekly and fortnightly visits throughout the year ensure that the grounds are kept well maintained. Winter is still a busy time for us. This is where the prep work for the growing season takes place. Also Machine maintenance. Spring, summer and autumn as well as the maintenance we carry out lawn treatments, planting jobs and various treatments for garden pests such as box caterpillars etc. It's a pleasure to work outside enjoying all the seasons in their splendour.

The candidate must have experience in garden maintenance and good gardening knowledge. Machine maintenance knowledge is also an advantage as we take great care in our equipment.

Preferably-
At least 5 year's gardening experience with good gardening knowledge. Qualifications in horticulture, experience in lawn treatments, soft landscaping and planting are a bonus.
Drivers license (clean)
Reliable, trustworthy and polite

Pay: £22,000.00-£24,000.00 per year

Today we presented Jack's house with the £737 raised from the fun day. They are so grateful for the donations so thanks everyone who came to the fun day or donated. The garden is now a really nice area for the children, parents and staff to enjoy. I have to also thank susie beech, Dan for giving up his spare time to help with the work, Heather & Ray from the ASE club and all the members for their efforts.

The begonia nonstop are just about at their peak now on this weekly job in Cheadle. It's nice to see people walk past with a smile on their face. I need to come up with some new ideas for the winter bedding because I'm bored of panseys and they always get white fly. I might try to persuade the customer to go for my mix of colourful small shrubs and evergreens.

Bedding plants are filling out nicely in the borders on a big site we do in Altrincham. Selective weedkiller on all the lawns today too. We will let that do it's work and then do the Autumn feed in a few weeks. We're on the second year here and we have pretty much got on top of every area on site. Maintaining each shrub, hedge, small tree by species. Next step is to do some replanting and reorganization of beds.
